The 11th century tower. You can climb to the top. Amazing views. Admission is 12 euros, this price includes two towers and 4 museums. The road is slightly uphill, you can stop and relax. There are a lot of cafes around, you can just sit on a bench.

San Marino is not only the oldest preserved republic in Europe (albeit a very small one), but also a powerful fortified area. As a person interested in military history, I tried to take a closer look at the fortifications in this mountainous area in the Apennines, which was difficult for enemies to reach. The capital of the republic of San Malino is a fortress with three defensive centers - towers (or castles) located on the top of Mount Titano at an altitude of about 750 meters: Guaita, Chesta and Montale. These towers are the symbol of the republic and are depicted on its coat of arms and flag. The oldest of them, the Guita Tower (Prima Torre or the First Tower) was built in the 11th century on one of the peaks of Monte Titano at an altitude of 752 meters above sea level. The tower is surrounded by two rows of walls with corner towers and consists of a 75-meter-high dojon (Torre Della Penna) and a bell tower. All this is built on a rock without a foundation. In 1960, the chapel of St. Barbara of Iliopolis (Nicomedia), a Roman martyr from the Phoenician Iliopolis (modern Lebanon), was opened in the tower. There is a well in the fortress courtyard and historical cannons are installed. Since the 16th century, a local prison has been functioning here (but they languished here for no more than six months, the rest were transferred to Italy to serve their sentences). After a large-scale restoration in 1930, the stadium allowed visitors and organized a museum. Most importantly, the view from the walls and the tower of the surrounding Italy is amazing!

A small state on the territory of Italy. The fortress, once built for protection, is picturesquely located on a mountain. The road to the fortress from the parking lot passes through a small, very beautiful town. There is a church on the square, a building housing the local government, and around it small residential buildings on narrow streets, cafes, shops. Lots of colors. From the towers of kraposti, very beautiful landscapes open up, even the Adriatic Sea can be seen in good weather.
