The fortress of Kyminlinna (Kymengorodsky Fortress, Kymenegrad). According to the Abosky Peace of 1743, the border of Russia and Sweden passed along the Kumen River. In the early 1790s, amid the brewing war with Sweden, Catherine II commissioned Alexander Suvorov to begin construction of a new system of border fortresses in Finland. The initial construction of the city fortress was carried out in 1791-1795. After Suvorov's departure, the construction was continued by General P.K. Sukhtelen, with whom the fortress was significantly expanded. After the annexation of Finland in 1809, the fortress lost its military significance. It was used by various institutions, and not only by the military. The fortress is currently owned by the state, but investors are being sought to sell it. There are occasional guided tours of the territory.
