Supermarket on 65th street, 1 is a place where dreams come true... if you dream of buying buckwheat with home delivery in the form of ants. I went to get bread, and left with the suspicion that the local vegetable department was actually a branch of the botanical garden: tomatoes were prehistoric exhibits, and the greens had clearly been trained for endurance without water. The staff is friendly, but they seem to have been trained in the art of slowness by Mediterranean turtles. And there's also a magic refrigerator – you open it, and it either hums like a Boeing taking off, or it's silent, as if offended.
