THE LARGEST MOSQUE IN ASTANA Astana is the center of Islamic culture of Kazakhstan. 70% of the population of Kazakhstan are Muslims. The largest mosque in the city is the Abu Nasr al-Farabi Mosque. Its architecture and interior decoration make it one of the most beautiful religious buildings in the region. We passed by her during the beginning of the afternoon prayer - zuhr. Companies of men were rushing towards her, carrying rugs in their hands. The mosque was built with funds allocated by the Emir of the State of Qatar, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Sini, as a gift. The mosque was designed by Lebanese architect Charles Hafiza and built by the Turkish company Pasiner. The construction was carried out from 2002 to 2005. The opening took place on March 22, 2005 in honor of the celebration Navruz. The mosque is named after the thinker, scientist Al-Farabi.
