According to the idea, the transparent part of the composition imitates a river; on top is a rook in the form of a white dove, and in the rook is an icon that became the prototype of the city coat of arms of the capital and is kept nearby in the Cathedral of the Holy Spirit. According to legend, the Apostle Luke had a hand in painting this image. For several centuries, the holy face was in Byzantium, and after the baptism of Rus, in one of the Kievan churches. In the 15th century, Kiev was plundered by the Tatars, and the icon was thrown into the Dnieper. Then she miraculously ended up in Minsk, having traveled more than 500 kilometers upstream along the river. In 1500, the ancient image was discovered by the townspeople on the banks of the Svisloch River, just near the place where the obelisk is now erected.
