What is so famous about Alaverdi Cathedral? He is a giant of his time. Built in the 11th century, Alaverdi has been the tallest religious building in Georgia for almost a thousand years. Its powerful walls, rising up to more than 50 meters, are a monumental symbol of faith and fortitude. There is still a monastery here, which was the center of enlightenment. This is not just a temple, but a whole monastery complex, which in the Middle Ages was one of the most important spiritual and cultural centers. The academy worked here, books were copied and chroniclers created. It is a magnificent witness to history. The cathedral has survived everything: invasions, earthquakes, wars. Its walls, covered with the scars of time, were seen by kings and ordinary pilgrims. Standing inside, under the giant dome, you feel the incredible, almost tangible energy of centuries. Now it is an oasis of peace and strength. Once inside, you enter another world. Harsh on the outside, ascetic on the inside, without gold and pomp. It is filled with soft light and silence, broken only by prayers. The coolness, the ancient icons and the gigantic space make you slow down, listen to yourself and feel something more.
