The Alexander Nevsky Cathedral in Paris is the cathedral of the Orthodox Church and is located at 12 Daru Street. The initiator of its construction in the middle of the 19th century was the rector of the embassy church, Archpriest Joseph Vasiliev, who was faced with the fact that the existing prayer room could not accommodate all believers. The Alexander Nevsky Cathedral in Paris was built in the Russian-Byzantine style. The architects were Professor Roman Ivanovich Kuzmin of the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts, who drew up the plan, and architect Ivan Vasil Strom, who led the construction and design of the interior. The architectural solutions of the St. Sophia Cathedral in Constantinople, as well as features of the Novgorod and Moscow architecture of the 17th century, were taken as samples. The temple has a five-dome roof, where five domes symbolize Jesus Christ and the four evangelists, while the central dome rises to a height of 48 meters. As for the interior decoration, a group of Russian artists led by Yevgraf Sorokin, who depicted Jesus Christ blessing on the main dome, worked on painting the walls and creating icons. The iconostasis for the lower Trinity church was carved oak, transferred from the former embassy church. The interior of the cathedral, typical of Orthodox churches, is characterized by an abundance of gilding, frescoes and an ornate iconostasis. In September 1861, the cathedral was consecrated by Bishop Leonty of Reval. In 1922, the church received the status of a cathedral for Russian emigrant parishes in Western Europe, and since 1983 it has been protected by the French state as a historical monument. The cathedral is known for its rich history: in 1918, Pablo Picasso and Olga Khokhlova were married here, and in 1922, Ivan Bunin and Vera Muromtseva; Ivan Turgenev, Fyodor Chaliapin, Vasily Kandinsky, Andrei Tarkovsky and many other prominent cultural figures were buried within its walls. People always come here, the cathedral is very popular. The fragrance inside is wonderful, the aura is pleasant.
