Enjoyed viewing cold climate animals in the winter snow. Some unusual animals such as the Taiga Antelope, polar wolf, and silver fox. Was mesmerized by the Amarillo and fruit bats in the exotic animal area.

Huge zoo! All animals can be seen. Went on Saturday, no too many people. For 1000 tenge you can feed a giraffe or an elephant! Great experience, definitely recommend!

I really liked the zoo. We visited with family, with children of different ages and everyone was delighted! For the youngest, there is an opportunity to ride through the most interesting places of the zoo on a children's steam train.
Aviaries with predators are well organized, where you can watch them and take pictures.
The variety of animals is amazing!
The children liked the aquarium the most, located in a stylized cave with stalactites, interesting lighting, calm music and beautiful aquariums.
You can spend the whole day in this zoo, there are many interesting things to see.

One of the best zoos I've ever seen. Green, large aviaries, you can feed the animals. There are many rare animals. The atmosphere is amazing, there is a lot of entertainment for children. A museum with an upside-down house, unusual and very interesting for everyone! Be sure to visit, I have been with the children several times and we are constantly discovering something new. An aviary with giraffes and a pond with pink flamingos will be remembered for a long time! The kangaroo was fed, very touching!

Actually, the zoo is good. Because we often visit the Novosibirsk Zoo, we know how good it can be there, and when we got to the Almaty Zoo, it seemed that it was just as good here, but we were already confused by the ticket price of 800 tenge, which is only 100-150 rubles. As a result, not all the animals in their enclosures were in the zoo after the winter, but that's okay. The scariest thing turned out to be what we came there for. Giraffes, elephant and hippopotamus with rhinos. Not only are the animals located at the very end of the zoo, which is not a bad thing. The bad thing is what kind of enclosures they are in and how they are treated. An elephant in a cold concrete box when it's already +20 outside. He has an incredible stink in the room and it's obvious that he's not comfortable there at all. It would seem that it could be worse. A large hippo in a cage is literally 5x3, it is clear that it does not have enough water, it weighs red and dirty. Rhinos are covered in dust and dirty, but at least they have a spacious outdoor enclosure. Perhaps they also live in the wild. They didn't look as sad as a rhino and an elephant. Giraffes are beautiful and beautiful, but in a small enclosure and very far from people (the second is certainly not the main thing). Is it so difficult to raise the price tag to the nominal 3,000 tenge (800 rubles = 4,000 tenge in the Novosibirsk zoo) and send this money to improve conditions for animals? Not for animals like tigers, which are already lying happily in the sun in their huge enclosure, but for rare animals.

The undoubted advantage is the ticket price - only 800 tenge (about 150 rubles) from an adult! Pennies. We were satisfied with the visit, the child liked it.

In the Almaty Zoo for the first time, we were with two children 2.5g and 10 years old — and everyone really liked it, including adults! Especially from feeding giraffes - a lot of amazing unforgettable emotions🥰🔥
In front of them, they immediately sold the twigs that they eat (for 1000 tenge) and the photographers here - everything is just organized!! With children, there are also places to relax, sit down to relax, and there is a place to have a snack - and very tasty - at the exit of the red cafe (red decoration) there is hot and all drinks, and very fast service 👍🏻
The only disadvantage for me was the queue to the toilet (there are few working booths) - apparently there was a peak of visitors on our day)))
At the entrance, it is better to prepare payment via caspi (so as not to stand in line))
In general, I liked almost everything and a huge number of different animals 👍🏻

I really liked the Almaty Zoo, we fed the elephant for 1000 tenge...You can't feed other animals, but someone did feed them.Very beautiful fish, rhinoceroses are cool...but it was a pity for the brown bear who was sitting in a small cage, very untidy, when a large area with a swimming pool was reserved for the polar bear.Tickets are at an affordable price, admission is free for the disabled.

Memories. After 9th grade, I spent the summer on vacation in Kazakhstan. I was at the Alma Ata Zoo. I don't know how I would rate the zoo today (2025) (at the age of 20) but then, as a schoolgirl, I really liked everything. There are a lot of things to see. We walked around the zoo almost the whole day. I remember the cockroach wards. And how the smallest cockroaches moved from one glass pavilion to another (they were so small that they lay in insignificant holes). When I was a kid, I was even afraid that I would bring them home.
I repeat, when I was a kid, I liked everything. I don't know how things are going at the zoo right now.

If we compare, the Almaty Zoo is more interesting than the Novosibirsk One, but it is inferior to the Barcelona Zoo. I have not visited other large zoos.

The zoo has a lot of animals, very educational for children. But some of them made an indelible impression. For example, lions in a winter aviary. From November to April, they are in a glass enclosure, without air or sun. But you can arrange walks in the fresh air for them. You can't look at them without crying. That's half the trouble. You will enter the enclosures where there are elephants, hippos, giraffes. It is impossible to be there without a gas mask. But we're going there with the kids. Poor animals, how can you mock them like that? The hippopotamus lies in a puddle of its own excrement. And the polar bear is in a big, nice enclosure, but for some reason it rushes back and forth along a narrow path. This is the result of being either hungry or used to a cramped kennel. After all, this is animal cruelty!
Not everyone is kept so badly. It's nice to see Amur tigers, polar wolves, and other animals walking.

I didn't like the noisy and brightly smelling trade in the zoo, I didn't like that it motivates people to throw junk food to animals surreptitiously. And in the room with the monkeys, the visitors behaved terribly, endless tapping on the glass of the enclosure... I don't know if the administration can somehow influence other visitors. On the other hand, we can see a lot of efforts to ensure a decent existence for zookeepers, zoning, and navigation for people.

First, about the advantages: the zoo is conveniently located, it is easy to reach; it contains some animals that are not in other zoos (giraffe, hippopotamus, rhinoceros).
Now about the cons: the territory is small (it used to be larger, part was given over to elite residential construction), animals are quite cramped, there are no fences and warning signs, local children are ready to climb right into the cages (parents are silent at the same time)... I visited the zoo 3 years ago. I hope that there have been changes for the better now.
