Grave grave for Soviet soldiers is located on Tolbukhin Boulevard to the left of the mass grave, where 10,000 people are buried. On the monument made of solid marble, next to the symbolic stars, the names of four Soviet tankers are stamped – the commander of the crew of the guard, junior Lieutenant Zenkevich, the guard sergeants Sitnikov and Kashkin, the guard private Volynkin.
Reinforced tank platoon (five vehicles) It was allocated for reconnaissance in the morning of July 3, 1944. He was advancing towards Minsk from the direction of Uruchye through enemy fire. The tank of 24-year-old Vasily Zenkevich and his crew stubbornly rushed forward. They died in the Chelyuskintsev Park area and were buried nearby – 20 meters north of the current metro station. In 1947, their ashes were transferred to a mass grave on Tolbukhin Boulevard. A modest monument to tankers appeared exactly 40 years later.
