From the second floor there is an interesting view of the interior decoration. Stained glass windows give the room a unique atmosphere… There is a very well-maintained courtyard around the building, where you can relax on benches in the shade of spreading trees, a big kind dog in a booth, silence, cleanliness and beauty, natural and man-made… I have repeatedly admired it from the water, traveling on steamboats along the Golden Horn, but I would never have thought that it was completely cast iron. The Bulgarian Church of St. Stephen at the Balat stop / tram T1, be sure to visit! if you have a route from Eminenu to Lotti Pier, (visit the cable car with a view of Pierre hill) return back to T1 or walk to the Balat Stop, visit this church, very beautiful! Buy bracelets / bells / souvenirs (not expensive). Take a walk around the territory.

The Iron Church was originally a wooden church of St. Stephen and differed little from others built at the same time (late XVIII—early XIX century). It was consecrated on October 9, 1849 and recognized as one of the centers of the Bulgarian national revival, which made it an important symbol. This saved her: after the fire that occurred at the end of the XIX century, she was not abandoned, but decided to restore, and with giving her a larger scale and grandeur. In order to avoid a repeat of the accident, it was decided to use cast iron instead of wood — that's how the church became iron. Moreover, not only cast iron was used, but also ordinary iron — this is due to the fact that the soil at the location is weak, so it was necessary to use mainly light materials. The construction of the new church was completed in 1898, and it was almost immediately rededicated by the Bulgarian exarch Joseph.
