The decoration is impressive, everything is really made of metal, although until you touch it, you completely mistake it for marble, wood ... The church is small, two-storied. From the second floor there is an interesting view of the interior decoration. Stained glass windows give the room a unique atmosphere… There is a very well-maintained courtyard around the building, where you can relax on benches in the shade of spreading trees, a big kind dog in a booth, silence, cleanliness and beauty, natural and man-made… I have repeatedly admired it from the water, traveling on steamboats along the Golden Horn, but I would never have thought that it was completely cast iron. For a variety of impressions, I highly recommend visiting…

The most beautiful Orthodox church in Istanbul. Located in the Balat district, it looks directly at the Golden Horn embankment. From Galatsky Bridge, you can walk along the embankment or take a bus. It belongs to unique buildings: the only Orthodox church in the world made of iron structures. The decoration of the temple is gorgeous, admired! The order and cleanliness are premium, which can not be said about all the cultural heritage sites of Istanbul! The temple is functioning. The cheapest prices for souvenirs, magnets. It is obligatory to visit!

The only Orthodox church where we were welcome! A very unusual building, completely made of metal, surprises with its exterior and interior decoration. People around you are happy to communicate and switch to Russian. Definitely worth a visit to this place on the shore of the strait.

A very beautiful and unusual church. It is built of metal, light and sparkling, like a shining cloud on the Golden Horn Bay. It's also very interesting and unusual inside. For some reason, photo and video shooting is prohibited.

The only temple in the world made of metal, it was very interesting to go and see, although, of course, there is more soulfulness in brick temples. Energetically, the metal is kind of hard, there is no such comfort as in stone temples.

It's a beautiful church that you should definitely visit! I advise you to take a leisurely walk around its territory and carefully inspect all the details of the facade, and then go inside, sit on a bench and get peace of mind.

The Bulgarian Church of St. Stephen at the Balat stop / tram T1, be sure to visit! if you have a route from Eminenu to Lotti Pier, (visit the cable car with a view of Pierre hill) return back to T1 or walk to the Balat Stop, visit this church, very beautiful! Buy bracelets / bells / souvenirs (not expensive). Take a walk around the territory.

A decent church. It is very pleasing to the eye among the many mosques. An impressive structure built entirely of cast iron. The church is active, so you can't take pictures inside. You can buy souvenirs

Cool! I definitely recommend you to visit. Such churches (made of cast iron and metal!!!) there are fewer than 10 in the world. The attendants are happy to talk about the history of the temple.

It would be very wrong to be in Istanbul and not go in. A stunning temple, weightless on the outside, amazing in beauty on the inside.

A beautiful building. Russian russians have a nice guy working inside, who spoke to us in pure Russian, and he learned it from Russian tourists. Pomegranate trees grow on the territory 😍

It is a very beautiful church. There are beautiful stained glass windows and icons inside it. It was very nice to find a functioning Orthodox church in a city like Istanbul. I also really liked their choir, its singing is soothing and inspiring at the same time.

It's nice to see a Christian temple in a Muslim country, and it's especially notable for being made entirely of metal.

A beautiful church with an unusual history and made of cast iron and tinplate with rivets, it's a pity that it's not visible under the decoration, but it's still interesting to know. Apparently, due to the fact that it is made of metal, it feels a little chilly inside in cool weather. Another interesting point is that the price for a candle is indicated in lira and Bulgarian leva.

One of my favorite places in Istanbul. It's a very beautiful church, the most beautiful I've ever seen. It is made entirely of iron , but you can 't say that . many different symbols are applied on the outside. It is worth taking a look at it from the water . a gorgeous sight , like the whole Balat

The Iron Church was originally a wooden church of St. Stephen and differed little from others built at the same time (late XVIII—early XIX century). It was consecrated on October 9, 1849 and recognized as one of the centers of the Bulgarian national revival, which made it an important symbol. This saved her: after the fire that occurred at the end of the XIX century, she was not abandoned, but decided to restore, and with giving her a larger scale and grandeur. In order to avoid a repeat of the accident, it was decided to use cast iron instead of wood — that's how the church became iron. Moreover, not only cast iron was used, but also ordinary iron — this is due to the fact that the soil at the location is weak, so it was necessary to use mainly light materials. The construction of the new church was completed in 1898, and it was almost immediately rededicated by the Bulgarian exarch Joseph.

Beautiful, quiet place. Inside there is a beautiful iconostasis, you can climb to the balconies of the second floor and relax from the Turkish heat. The entrance, of course, is free, but you can leave a donation at the exit

It was very touching to get to church on Easter. Nicely. I bought an icon as a keepsake. But she didn't ask who was depicted. It is clear that the Virgin is most likely Stefan, and who is the third? Can someone explain? I will be grateful.
