Çankırı Castle was established on a small hill in the north of the city. The castle, which was famous for its strength during the Roman, Byzantine, Danish, Seljuk and Ottoman periods, was inhabited until the last century and nothing but a few ruins of walls remained of the structure to our time. The walls of the castle, which has a quadrangular plan, are a mixture of rubble stone and brick. Its height is about 150 meters from the creek located on the outskirts. There is a rock tomb dating from the Roman Period, settlement ruins and terracotta pot fragments and the tomb of Emir Karatekin Bey, the Conqueror of Çankırı, inside the castle. The castle, which has been reforested in the past years, is used as a visitor and promenade place. The glass terrace has also been opened for service.
