The cathedral is the center of a majestic architectural composition on the square, which was named piazza dei miracoli, i.e. The Square of Miracles. The cathedral began to be built in the 11th century, with funds that the Pisa Commune-Republic acquired as a result of successful wars, and was consecrated in the 12th century. In 1118, the consacration of the cathedral was carried out by the Pope himself, who at that historical moment was a descendant of a noble family of Pisa. Next to the cathedral there is a baptistery and the famous sloping tower, like the cathedral, these architectural dominants of the city belong to a special style called Pisano

The Pisa Cathedral, also known as the Duomo di Pisa, began to be built in 1063. The initiator of this event was the Archbishop of Pisa Busceto di Giovanni Giudice, under whose close supervision the construction took place. Busceto di Giovanni Giudice also became the founder of a new unique style, which appeared directly during the construction and was called the Pisan Romanesque style.
