The cathedral is the center of a majestic architectural composition on the square, which was named piazza dei miracoli, i.e. The Square of Miracles. The cathedral began to be built in the 11th century, with funds that the Pisa Commune-Republic acquired as a result of successful wars, and was consecrated in the 12th century. In 1118, the consacration of the cathedral was carried out by the Pope himself, who at that historical moment was a descendant of a noble family of Pisa. Next to the cathedral there is a baptistery and the famous sloping tower, like the cathedral, these architectural dominants of the city belong to a special style called Pisano

When I saw it for the first time, I almost forgot about the Tower. In some ways, this Cathedral reminded me of Milan. Its arched colonnades of the facade can be viewed for a really long time - it's very beautiful! And in a complex with surrounding buildings and a green lawn with bright sun and clear sky, it's fantastic! It is located on a really wonderful Square of Wonders, where the famous Tower just gets lost. The thing is that the surrounding buildings are even more beautiful and monumental. I especially liked this cathedral - the facade is a bit like a Bolshoi Theater, but much more sophisticated in colonnade and marble carvings.
