The citadel looks impressive and is in good condition. It is not very clear who to thank for this - the Ottoman engineers or the current restorers. Probably both. In any case, a walk through the fortress is interesting. Unless, of course, the day is too sunny, in the sense of not too hot...

This is the most impressive building in the old town of Acre! The fortress is located in the northern part of the city. It was built by the ruler of Akko Dahir al-Omar in 1750 on the ruins of the fortress-monastery of the Hospitallers.The height of the citadel is 40 m.It mainly includes buildings from the Ottoman period. The fortress served as a palace for the rulers of Akko, as well as weapons depots and barracks. This and the history of the struggle of the Jews in the period preceding the formation of Israel are told by the expositions of the city museum of prisoners of the underground, which is located in the Citadel.
