The citadel impresses with its gigantic size and breathtaking panoramic views. Her story is also very fascinating. It was founded at the behest of the legendary commander Salah al-Din, after whom it got its name. However, this is not his name, but an honorary nickname that means "piety of faith." A fortress was being built to protect against the Crusaders, but Saladin managed to defeat them before, and the structure turned into a long-lasting fortress. Saladin never saw the built fortress. Interestingly, stones from the small pyramids of Giza were used to lay the walls. Incredibly, the fortress was once lined with marble. But during the Ottoman rule of Egypt, Sultan Selim ordered the stone to be stripped and sent to Turkey. The territory of the fortress itself is full of historical monuments and interesting places to visit. This is an Alabaster mosque, a spiral well and a number of amateur museums.

An atmospheric place. There are several museums on the territory. There is a viewing platform. Entrance tickets are only by card, but there is usually a man at the entrance who buys electronic tickets for cash and conducts them.

One of the main attractions of Cairo, and it deserves it. Inside there are several large mosques, a police museum, casemates, a huge military museum. I really liked the exhibits - antique carriages on the second floor of the palace. I wonder how they were dragged there. It will take a lot of time, two hours to walk side by side, and maybe more. Ice cream and water are expensive inside.
