Dubai Mall is, of course, a gorgeous center. There are a lot of shops, food courts, an aquarium, an ice rink, and the entrance to the Burj Khalifa is via the Dubai mall. There are many thematic departments, chinatown, fashion, etc. I liked the waterfall too.

Despite the huge number of people - Friday evening, walking locals + guests of Dubai - it's quite comfortable to move around. We looked at the fish in the aquarium, admired the pearl fishermen, and watched the fountain show. It was a wonderful sight for me.
