From the ground up, New York is dirt, noise, and people running. New York City from the height of the Empire State Building is love. I climbed up there at sunset and realized why this skyscraper is called the eighth wonder of the world. It's old, worn out in elevators, but it works. What's rocking: 1. 360 view. Unlike modern towers with glass floors, here you just stand on a stone parapet and look at a million lights. Lower Manhattan, Central Park (yes, you can see it!), the Statue of Liberty with a match. You take pictures and you can't stop. 2. Art Deco. Inside, it's like a museum: mosaics, chandeliers, gold. Elevators with pictures of the starry sky. It's not just a "climb to the tower", it's a trip to 1931. Very stylish. 3. The wind. On the 86th outdoor area, it blows away so that the ears are blocked. But you feel like a bird (freezing, but a bird). What infuriates: · Queues. There are two of them: first to the entrance (X-ray as at the airport), then to the elevator. There is an hour and a half of standing during the season. To buy a "fast ticket" (express) is to go broke, but it saves your nerves. · Glass floor? He's gone. On the 102nd floor there is an observation room with glass windows (not a floor!), but it's not worth it - the view is almost the same, but there are fewer people. Take a regular ticket to 86th. · Prices. The ticket is ~$45-60. In the evening (sunset) — more expensive. Plus, inside the cafe with prices like in Manhattan: coffee $7, pizza $10. Tip: Go an hour after dawn or an hour before sunset (you will stay for the lights of the city). And take an audio guide in Russian — it will tell you where to look. Bottom line: The Empire State Building is the grandfather of skyscrapers. He's not the tallest, he's not the most fashionable, but he's the face of New York. If you see it for the first time and you think, "well, rocks and stones," no. If you get up, you'll understand. I recommend it exactly once, but from the bottom of my heart.
