Beautiful evening Europe Square in Batumi, by the sea in the heart of the old town. Прекрасная вечерняя площадь Европы в Батуми, у моря, в центре старого города. მშვენიერი საღამო ევროპის მოედანზე ბათუმში, ზღვის პირას, ძველი ქალაქის გულში. 1. Central square with European style. Europe Square is in the middle of Batumi. It’s open, clean, and full of light. People come here to walk, relax, and take photos. 2. Built in early 2000s, renewed in 2007. The city made the square to show Batumi’s European spirit. It became more beautiful after improvements in 2007. 3. Designed with mix of old and new. The buildings around have European architecture. The square has fountains, benches, and wide paths. The Medea statue was made by Georgian sculptor Davit Khmaladze. 4. Medea statue stands in the center. Medea holds the Golden Fleece, showing Batumi’s link to Greek myths and Europe. It’s tall and easy to spot. 5. What’s nearby: - Astronomical Clock (1 min walk) - Piazza Square (5 min walk) - Batumi Boulevard (3 min walk) - Restaurants, cafes, and shops all around 6. What’s inside the square: - Fountains with lights - Benches and flower beds - Open space for walking and events - Tourist info signs and photo spots 7. Good for families and tourists. Safe, clean, and easy to reach. People of all ages enjoy it. You can sit, take pictures, or start your city walk from here. 8. Best time to visit: Evening for lights and cooler air. Morning for quiet walks and fresh coffee nearby. 9. Great starting point for Batumi tour. From here, you can walk to the beach, museums, or explore the old town. It’s a perfect first stop.

Europe Square in Batumi is the main square of the city, a place of attraction for tourists, rallies and cultural events. The square is located in the Old Town, and you can walk from any end of it in 5-10 minutes. If the accommodation is located on the New Boulevard, in the area of high-rise buildings, then the walk will take from half an hour to an hour. The area is small — its sides do not exceed 100 meters. It is formed by buildings housing various hotels and restaurants, including well-known chain ones. In summer, there is a fountain in the center of the square, under the jets of which you can run. One of the iconic landmarks is the statue of Medea. The monument symbolizes ancient Greek mythology and Georgia's close cultural ties with Europe. There is a tower next to the square, which houses a multifunctional astronomical clock. They can be used to determine not only the time, but also the signs of the zodiac, the phase of the moon, and much more.

If you come to Batumi, then you probably need to go here. To see what has been done in the last ten years; how Georgia perceived and articulated itself as a part of Europe. I viewed Europa Square in the same context as the new buildings in Tbilisi - the House of Justice, the Bridge of Peace... However, unlike, for example, Berlin, where new high-tech buildings were placed in one huge block, in Tbilisi they were placed in the middle of the city. Individually, these buildings look amazing. But in the context of the old Caucasian city (and even with the Soviet architectural heritage), to put it mildly, it is ambiguous. However, in Tbilisi, at least, these are modern, conceptual buildings. There is also a new model with a claim to an "ancient European city". Here is the local "town hall", here is the "ancient column", here is the "building of the local landtag". It turned out like in Las Vegas. Everyone there understands that the Eiffel Tower is a small fake tower, and here - that "Venice" is not a real Venice. Yes, perhaps this is the "Europeanness" of Europa Square. But in Europe, both Western and Eastern, they tried, as far as they could, to recreate what was destroyed during the war or preserve the centuries-old heritage. After all, the entire center of Munich is one big remodel, but recreated from pre-war drawings and photographs... Why didn't they rethink Georgian architecture, but created a garish kitsch that presents stereotypes about European architecture?.. Batumi, give me an answer! There is no response... On the other hand, who am I to criticize someone else's city... so I can only add subjective criticism here in the Maps -) I will give not three stars, but four, for cleanliness, a lot of cafes on the square and beautiful plantings.
