One of the oldest wells in Prague appeared during the early Middle Ages at the intersection of three trade roads. In 1560, this well was decorated with a beautiful wrought-iron fence, which was made by Joerg Schmidhammer, a court locksmith. According to legend, this is the oldest preserved wrought iron fence in Prague. In the XVII century, decorative elements were added to it in the form of a spire, angelic figures and an armorial lion. In the second half of the 19th century, during the restoration under the direction of architect Josef Moker, the well was transformed into a fountain. A cast-iron column with water pumps was placed in the center of the fence.
