The magnificent Japanese garden in Moscow is the rare place to enjoy Hanami, beautiful tradition of watching blossoming sakura.
It’s not only the park itself that is unique and beatuful, but also the story behind it: the proposal to create a park came from the Ambassador of Japan in the early 80s, at the very height of the Cold War, when the world lived in daily fear of a nuclear catastrophe. The landscape works were carried out within 4 years under the personal supervision of the famous landscape architect Takeshi Nakajima. Hundreds of plants were carefully moved here from the island of Hokkaido, as well as the bridges, pavillons, stone lanterns and pagodas, the largest of wich is around 200 year old. The stones of the desired color and shape were hand-picked in Western Ukraine. For this tremendous work, as well as for other projects he had undertaken in the USA, Austria, France, Australia, Nakajima-san was later awarded the Imperial Order of the Rising Sun as recognition of the mission of promoting Japanese culture worldwide.
Since then, for over 35 years this masterpiece of human creative genius remainуs an idyllic universe within Moscow, a well hidden place to escape from any inperfections of the outer world. On the scale of vast Russia, these three hectares of land are like a tiny seed, but from this seed grows great love. This is the live reminder and message to the future generations that the power of love is stronger than any weapon, it is able to defeat any evil, even war.
