I always try to find places with local dishes for the locals. Cafe Heybe is in fact not a cafe, but a small kitchen of one chef-owner Mehmet bey, where the Turks themselves sit. It's easy to find - turn off the tourist boardwalk into the depths of the city and on the outskirts of the pretentious embankment, in the shadow of a square with an inactive fountain, a couple of cafes for backgammon players lurk. We passed by twice, but in vain. Firstly, we were initially scared off by uncharacteristically low prices, and the second time we thought that there was no food there except tea. Ha-ha. Food is the main reason why you need to come here, well, except for a very polite host, and it is the local food - simple, traditional, Mediterranean and delicious (without too much pathos). Fish is something incredible, they have it modestly written on the menu balik pazalik (the price is negotiable) do not be afraid! The fact is that Mehmet Bey has a simple fish, which his friends fishermen catch for him. I tried King Fish (just b...mbah) came out 150 lira and I didn't remember the second 160. It is also excellent, freshly caught fish from the sea cannot be compared with any store-bought dorado from cages from marine farms, which will be sold to you at the price of wild. Wild fish always look smaller and plainer here, but the taste is completely different. As a result, for a dinner of two fish, salad, tea, homemade ayran with thyme for two, we gave 370 liras (1.5 times less restaurants in Porridge). Yes, maybe it's not cheap either, but it's worse when you give 500-600 and the Turks often cook fish poorly, no offense. Mehmet is an exception, we recommend you to visit! In short, we are delighted with this place.
