Ilor (Ilori, Elyr). The Church of St. George the Victorious. Abkhazia. 🌳⛪️🌳☦🌳⛪️ The Ilora temple in honor of St. George the Victorious was erected on the site of one of the seven main Abkhazian sanctuaries of Elyr-nykha in the XI century. Father Sergius, a priest serving here, became famous for being credited with the ability to exorcise a demon from a person. The church contains fragments of the relics of St. George the Victorious, myrrh-streaming and even bleeding icons. Myrrh–streaming icons and bleeding ones are one of the distinctive wonders of the temple. Icons are not very often put on public display. It is believed that the faces of saints cry in this way. Now there are several myrrh-streaming icons and one bleeding icon in the Ilora temple, which are especially revered by believers. They are strictly forbidden to touch them with your hands, to kiss them, you can only touch the wick of an unlit candle.

This amazing temple is located in a picturesque place surrounded by snow-white flowers and magnificent landscapes. Inside the temple you will find many icons, among which there are paintings in the Georgian language. Each icon arouses genuine interest, allowing you to immerse yourself in the world of spiritual art. The temple is a 10-15-minute drive from the town of Ochamchira.

A very unusual and blessed place, the main room in the 8th century temple. We arrived on Sunday and attended the service, which is conducted in three languages. Icons are myrrh-streaming and one is bleeding, for the first time I saw such a phenomenon. There are a lot of people, there are people with physical ailments (not for the impressionable), it's stuffy in the temple, it may get a little bad, there is no hood, the windows are closed. We got to the bell ringing, it is still "tame" and controlled by a woman. When the bell rings, all the dogs outside the territory howl. There is a spring on the territory, you can get water, there is a toilet, benches, you can sit and just enjoy this fertile place. Many people know what this place is famous for, believe it or not, it's up to you.… Before the Easter fast, on Friday, February 20, there will be the last report (exorcism), then there will be no Easter. Before that, you need to fast and take communion for three days, for those who want to watch, the same thing is necessary in order not to pick up evil spirits. To be honest, after reading the "scary" stuff about this place, I drove and entered with excitement, but after crossing the threshold, everything passed. We listened to the 90th Psalm, prayers, and lit candles. They also sell homemade fried potato pies in a shop across the street. Believe me, it's very tasty! Although I don't eat fried food, I couldn't resist it, the dough is thin, without yeast, with local milk, there is a lot of filling, and most importantly, there was no heartburn or pain in the hypochondrium. If you're thinking of visiting or not, it's definitely worth a visit. Skirts below the knees, covered shoulders and head are mandatory for women.
