The monument is dedicated to the outstanding Georgian writer, philologist and literary historian Konstantin Simonovich Gamsakhurdia (1891-1975), the father of the first President of Georgia Zviada Gamsakhurdia. The monument was created by sculptor T. Kikalishvili and architect T. Tevzadze and was installed in 1979.
