🏯 Khedive (tur. Hidiv Kasri ), or Chubuklu (tur.Çubuklu Sarayı) is a palace complex on the Asian side of the Bosphorus in Istanbul, the former residence of the Khedives of Egypt.
Khedive is the title of the Vice-Sultan of Egypt, which existed during the period of Egypt's dependence on the Ottoman Empire (1867-1914).
The palace was built in 1907 by order of the last Khedive of Egypt and Sudan, Abbas II Hilmi (1892-1914) by architects from Italy, Antonio Lashaka and Delfo Seminati.
The palace is designed in the Art Nouveau style, modeled after Renaissance villas, including the characteristics and details of the neoclassical architecture of the Ottoman Empire. An identical replica of the palace was built on the banks of the Nile River in Egypt.
By order of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, the founder and first president of the Turkish Republic, the city of Istanbul acquired the palace in 1937. However, it remained unclaimed until the 1980s. In 1984, the Khedive's palace was opened to the public. The palace houses a restaurant, a hotel and a cafe.
The palace complex stands on top of a picturesque hill in a large grove covering an area of approximately 110 hectares, near the Chubuklu marina in the Beykoz district.
There is a fountain in front of the main entrance to the building. Ornate glass doors lead to the central fireplace room in an oriental style. The ceiling of this hall is covered with a very beautiful colored mosaic, in the center of the hall there is another fountain with a small pool. In addition to the main staircase, an elevator with a sofa leads to the rooms on the second floor. The interior and furniture in the rooms are partially preserved, but the free entrance is closed.
The palace tower has an outdoor terrace with a magnificent view of the Bosphorus coast and the surroundings of the palace. In addition to the stairs, an elevator (originally steam, now electric) also leads to the upper platform of the tower.
🌹 The surroundings of the Khedive Palace have recently been decorated with one of the most extensive rose gardens on the shores of the Bosphorus. The area is amazingly beautiful, and the palace complex only adds to its charm.
