The elegant Catholic Church of St. Joseph the Chosen of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the Upper Town in Minsk was built in 1652 in the form of a towering basilica with Baroque features. Renovated in 1983, it now houses archival institutions.

St. Joseph's Church St. Joseph's Church was built as part of the Bernardine monastery in 1652. It was famous for nine carved gilded altars. In 1864, it was closed after the suppression of the 1863-64 uprising, in which the Bernardine monks actively participated, and was transferred to the city as an archive building, which saved the temple from destruction during the Soviet era.   Today, the building of St. Joseph's Church is a monument of Baroque architecture, restored in 1983. Now, as 150 years ago, there is an archive in it. Worship services are not held.

It is impossible not to notice the temple while walking through the old town. The temple is beautiful, although it is quite concise for the Baroque style in which it was built. Architecturally, it is a traditional three-nave structure dating back to Roman times. The temple is the remaining part of the Bernardine monastery. St. Joseph's Church in Minsk was built as part of the Bernardine monastery in 1652. By the end of the XVIII — beginning of the XIX centuries, the Bernardine monastery occupied an entire block. In the 1860s, the monastery was abolished, and the building was confiscated from the church in 1864 for the participation of believers in the Polish uprising. Now the national flag of Belarus is hanging on the building and the archive of scientific and technical documentation and the archive of literature and art of Belarus are located. So it turns out to be admired only from the outside.
