Well, rather it is the ruins of a fortress and a temple. You can climb, you can go to the temple. As everywhere, there are no locks. This is a border area. We need documents for all passengers. The road is accessible for a passenger car (as of August 2024), but with a clearance of 14 cm we drove from Lenigor for an hour and a half. There is no such infrastructure. The nearest shop or cafe in Leningor, gas station in Tskhinvali. The views along the way are gorgeous, we did not regret that we reached it.

The monastery has suffered many destructions, and all its modern buildings date back to the XVIII century. The greatness of the monastery lies more in its past than in the present. The monastery is 20 km away. north of Leningor/Akhalgori. We have to drive along the only gravel path until it leads to the monastery. There are no difficult climbs, the passenger car passes. In front of the monastery, about 2 km away, the road is blocked by a gate. This is not a border zone, but the documents will be checked here. There is no need to be afraid of the gates, they do not mean any prohibition. You don't need passes here either. There is no transport, so it is not easy to get here without a car, for example by hitchhiking: there may not be cars all day

This is a magical place!! The monastery of the 14th century. Now one church has been preserved and it is functioning! Services are underway. The church belongs to the Georgian Orthodox Church.
