At the moment, as far as I know, this monument to the great Hetman and Chancellor of the Great Patriotic War Lev Ivanovich Sapieha is the only one on the territory of Belarus. The fact is that the Chancellor has contributed to the development of the settlement. According to historical information, Lev Sapieha acquired these lands in 1586 from the Vilna Catholic see and initiated the transfer of all the most important architectural structures (castle, church and church) to the other side of the river. Since then, Lepel has begun its development and has not changed its location, only the village of Stary Lepel, which retains its former name, reminds of its original location. The initiator of the monument's creation was Father Andrey Aniskevich, rector of the local Roman Catholic community of St. Casimir. The famous Minsk sculptor Lev Oganov, who depicted Sapieha in full dress, worked on the monument to Lev Sapieha in Lepel. Dressed in a tunic over a cuirass, the chancellor holds a hetman's mace in his right hand, and leans on the hilt of a noble's saber with his left hand. By the way, when Lepel was transferred, Lev Ivanovich had not yet been appointed chancellor, but the sculptor felt that historical accuracy was of little importance here. The total height of the bronze monument is 3 meters, it is located on a granite pedestal. The monument is located in an accessible place. Very close by, you can park your vehicle and take a walk through the Central Park, to the coast of the Lepel reservoir. This is where this monument will be found.

An extraordinary historical personality. A pretty monument in Lepel next to the church.

A good monument in front of the church. Well-groomed territory, a sea of flowers and greenery. Very clean.
