I came to buy a cake for my husband's birthday and looked at it here in advance. But instead of normal service, I got a nasty grin and the saleswoman's phrase that she "speaks neither Russian nor English - only Georgian." She just stared at me for a minute, and then, seeing my confusion, she began to list the toppings perfectly in Russian. For me, it was humiliating and insulting to the point of tears. I came with a smile, tried to speak English (maybe I should have suggested German?), just to make her feel more comfortable, and in response I received demonstrative unfriendliness. She didn't know my story or why I was here in Georgia, and yet she decided to treat me like this. My grandfather is Georgian, but no one taught me the language. Is that a reason to refuse to buy a cake? Thank you for discriminating on the basis of language. Never set foot in here again. By the way, nearby at Marron Pastry there is excellent service and sweets are just as good.
