I have visited this restaurant many times before — the food is tasty and the service was always within expectations. On my last visit, I sat at a table waiting for a friend. When he arrived, we moved to a neighboring table. The manager came over and said the table was taken: “look, there are cutlery sets — that means it’s reserved.” There was no “reserved” sign, and cutlery in craft paper bags is not an obvious indicator for guests — it may just look like they were placed for convenience. We agreed to move, but the manager asked “where?”. Logically, it would have been better to suggest suitable alternatives right away. When I mentioned this, he interrupted and started listing tables. In the end, we decided to leave and have breakfast elsewhere. Conclusions: 1. What seems obvious to the staff is not always obvious to the guests. 2. Service can be improved by offering alternatives immediately and making things easier for the guest. 3. A simple apology can calm the guest and help keep them. Overall, the place is good. For now, I’ll give it 3 out of 5. I’ll definitely come back for the delicious salmon Benedict.
