The Mausoleum of Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent (tur. Kanuni Sultan Suleyman Türbesi) is a majestic tomb where one of the most famous and powerful rulers of the Ottoman Empire rests. It is one of the most important and revered places in Istanbul. The mausoleum is located in the courtyard of the grandiose Suleymaniye Camii Mosque complex in Istanbul, which was built by order of Suleiman himself. Architect: Like the entire complex of the Suleymaniye Mosque, the mausoleum was designed by the greatest Ottoman architect Mimar Sinan. Construction: The mausoleum was built shortly after Suleiman's death in 1566, by order of his son, Sultan Selim II. Exterior: The mausoleum is an octagonal structure topped by a double dome. The exterior walls are richly decorated with carved marble and inlays, as well as calligraphic inscriptions. An elegant gallery with columns is located around the mausoleum. Interior: Iznik tiles: The interior of the mausoleum impresses with its luxury and craftsmanship. The walls are lined with magnificent 16th-century Iznik çinileri tiles. These tiles feature rich floral patterns (tulips, carnations, roses) and a predominance of blue, red and green colors, creating a unique atmosphere. Dome and painting: The dome and arches are decorated with intricate paintings, gilding and calligraphy. Sarcophagus: In the center of the mausoleum is the sarcophagus of Suleiman the Magnificent, which is covered with luxurious fabrics and a shawl. It is important to remember that this is a symbolic sarcophagus; the sultan's body is buried under it. Who else is buried: In the same mausoleum, in addition to Suleiman the Magnificent, rest: His daughter, Mihrimah Sultan. Later, some subsequent sultans of the Ottoman Empire were buried there: Ahmed II and Suleiman II. Hurrem Sultan Mausoleum: Next to the mausoleum of Suleiman, in the same courtyard, there is a separate but adjacent mausoleum of his beloved wife, Haseki Hurrem Sultan (Roksolana). Her mausoleum is also octagonal, but slightly smaller and has its own unique decorations, although it is also richly decorated with Iznik tiles. The Mausoleum of Suleiman the Magnificent is not only the resting place of one of the greatest Ottoman sultans, but also a masterpiece of Ottoman architecture and art, demonstrating the supreme flourishing of the empire. It is an important historical and cultural monument, as well as a popular place for tourists and pilgrims who want to pay homage to the great ruler.

Visiting the Sultan Suleiman Mausoleum is one of the most exciting experiences in Istanbul. This place is literally steeped in the history and grandeur of the Ottoman era. Here you feel not just the peace of a great ruler, but an entire epoch that has left its mark on world history. The architecture is impressive — restrained, but monumental, with a subtle sense of style. It is very interesting to learn more about the personality of Suleiman the Magnificent and his importance to the Ottoman Empire. The atmosphere in the mausoleum is quiet, almost sacred. There you want to slow down and just be in the moment. I recommend it to anyone who loves history, appreciates architecture and wants to feel the spirit of real imperial Turkey.

Suleymaniye Mosque (Turkish: Suleymaniye Camii) is the second mosque in Istanbul in terms of importance (after the Blue Mosque, or Sultan Ahmet Mosque) and in terms of size (after the Chamlıc Mosque, opened in 2019). It is located in the old part of the city, in the Vefa district. An excellent project, exquisitely selected materials, everything in the smallest detail gives an understanding of the era and a complete immersion in history with facts.

An incredibly beautiful mausoleum built by the great Mimar Sinan. There is silence and peace inside. A lot of details - paintings, tiles, fences, etc. The mausoleum is open until 17:00, closed on Monday.

It's a beautiful place. Very beautiful views of the Bosphorus. The mausoleum itself is huge and impressive in its beauty. There are a lot of tourists who come specially in groups, as well as a lot of single travelers. I advise you to visit, and even more so it is free.

It's a very beautiful mosque. I was with my wife when the next TV series was being filmed here. Of course, it made it a little difficult to look at all these beauties. But for the sake of art, I had to put up with it. The Suleymaniye Mosque is the second largest and, until the opening of the Chamlija Mosque in 2019, the first mosque in Istanbul, accommodating more than 5,000 worshippers. It is located in the old part of the city, in the Vefa district. The mosque was built by order of Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent by architect Sinan in 1550-1557.

Sultan Suleiman's Mausoleum and Khurem are located 20 steps from each other, on the territory of a small cemetery near the walls of the Suleimaniye Mosque, which was built by Miman Sinan for Sultan Suleiman. An atmospheric place, a gorgeous observation deck on the city and the Bosphorus nearby, I highly recommend a visit. Admission is free.

In the center of the cemetery there are two main mausoleums (turbe) - Sultan Suleiman and Hurrem Sultan. This is a part of the very rich and distinctive history of Istanbul, which is definitely worth touching. I recommend visiting all the sights of Istanbul with a guide. Then you will be able to feel the events of those times, the customs and traditions, the ups and downs of that era. The photo shows a cemetery, with the wall of Sultan Suleiman's mausoleum visible on the left. By the way, the burials of men and women have their own characteristics that tell the stories of the dead.

Thanks to Suleiman for the gorgeous mosque! There are a lot of people, the Domashny TV channel and the Magnificent Century series are doing their job :) I liked the information stands next to the mausoleum. In two languages: Turkish and English. All the necessary information is written in simple English. There are cats inside the mausoleum, of course)

The situation is the same as with the neighboring Hurrem Sultan tomb: at the entrance there is a crowd of people who want to squeeze inside, they must take off their shoes (a Muslim shrine!), inside there are several sarcophagi covered with cloth, with or without turbans (for "boys") (for "girls"). If you are not a fan of the TV series "Magnificent Century", then it is better to limit yourself to the tour of the Suleymaniye Mosque itself, if you have patiently watched all 150 episodes with a must-be.

We got to the mosque and mausoleum on Eid al-Adha for free. We were lucky to have a guide, as it turned out, there was a Russian-speaking guide from one of the tourist groups and we just listened. And on the other hand, you realize that there lies the man who controlled three continents.

Suleiman I the Magnificent rests here, he was the sultan of the Ottoman Empire (1520-1566). In Europe, he is usually called Suleiman the Magnificent, and in the Muslim world — Suleiman Kanuni. The mausoleum also houses: Sultan Suleiman II, Sultan Ahmed II, Mihrimah Sultan (daughter of Sultan Suleiman), Salih Dilashup Walida Sultan, Asiya Sultan, Rabia Sultan (wife of Ahmed II), Safiye Sultan (daughter of Mustafa II) and Hatice Muazzez Sultan. Admission is free, shoes must be left at the entrance, shawls and skirts are not required. There are rainwater depressions for cats and dogs near the mausoleum.

My acquaintance with the Ottoman Empire began exactly a year ago with an excursion to TOPKAPI, then I didn't know anything about the Sultans and their lives, this time I came prepared and it was a completely different feeling! The scale, the atmosphere, the inner feelings and the greatness of Suleymaniye - it was magical.
