Central Mosque of Uralsk To get deeper into the culture, I decided to visit local religious sites. Since Islam prevails in Kazakhstan, the central mosque of Uralsk became the first place. It is the most modern of the three operating mosques in the city. It is built using the latest technologies, including underfloor heating, and accommodates more than 1 thousand people. Several architects and international companies participated in the design of the mosque. The marble for the decoration was imported from China, the stained glass windows were custom-made in Italian workshops, and the carpets were woven in France. All these elements, along with others, were combined on Kazakh soil thanks to German technologies. Thus, the authors of the project sought to show the unity of peace and faith in one place. Construction began in 2000, and in November 2005 it opened its doors to the first visitors. The mosque is built on one of the main avenues. Previously, there was a private sector here, and dilapidated houses were resettled to make way for construction. The proximity to residential buildings has made visiting the mosque more convenient for most citizens. Despite its modern appearance, the mosque was built in accordance with all the canons of Islam. The building has a rectangular shape with a flat roof. The entrance group is pushed forward and decorated with traditional patterns. In the center is a door with a domed arch. The main feature of the mosque is the dome, thanks to which the main hall is always filled with natural light. You need to take off your shoes at the entrance, and you immediately feel the softness of the carpets under your feet. Despite the sparseness, the atmosphere was very friendly. I was immediately recognized as a "foreigner" and asked with interest where I came from, wondering at my long journey. At first, I was embarrassed to take pictures inside, but one of the visitors encouraged me to take photos. Such friendliness pleasantly surprised me, unlike the next place I visited...
