There are 28 mosques and prayer houses in Uzgen, at least two of them are pre-revolutionary (built in 1893 and 1914, respectively), one each in the Upper and Lower parts. Nizhny Uzgen is the kingdom of the old mahallas. Although Uzgen regained its city status only in 1927 (more than 700 years after the invasion of Genghis Khan), it actually became such at least in the 19th century. The mahallas stretch for kilometers, and at least three mosques can be seen from above.
