We had a rest in October 2024
1 - Sovkovy Hotel. Raw.
2 - the elevators are not working. There are flowers at the entrance to them.
3 - The food is meager and uniform.
4 - there is no massage or even a medical room or entertainment. Entertain yourself however you want.
5 - we took bicycles for free, 99% are life-threatening. At one point, the chain snapped after 1 km. On the second one, the saddle broke. They didn't take it further, the tk is the same, according to the staff.
6 - cleaning was done for show. My wife didn't like her at all. There is dirt and hair of other guests in the corners. The water was not brought to the room immediately, but a day later. And the fact that his wife knows English, she's insulted them.
7 - shop at the hotel, souvenirs only. And that's why it's more valuable than on the street, where it's supposedly counter-aggressive. Actually, no. Buy safely.
8 - we arrived with 100 bills, exchanged the operator, and bought the cheapest tour.
9 - When buying a tour, check the weather. Because many things may not be fulfilled, and the money or the difference will not be refunded.
10 - take creams and medicines, especially them, with you. There's nothing at all, not even baralgin. Take hygiene with you.

I stayed at this hotel in December for the second time, the first time I was at this hotel 15 years ago and then it was very nice here. I succumbed to nostalgia and decided to go to Cuba for the second time and it was my fatal mistake... Now Cuba is just trash. Although I understood that there is no concept of service here in principle. The food is not delicious, the only thing that pleased me was that there was always papaya for breakfast, lunch and dinner. There was no coffee in the bar for several days. A glass will disappear from the room, then a towel will not be reported, and after taking the used one, they will not change it and will not report a new one. Yes, the ocean has not changed- it is still beautiful, but Cuba has changed in principle. But even for the sake of the ocean, it's not worth coming here. If you are still unlucky with the weather, this is money thrown away... I'm not coming here anymore...

We stayed at this hotel in the first half of November 2024. Before the trip, I read terrible reviews about the hotel. But, fortunately, we didn't see any horrors, only some advantages. We have never met a friendlier staff in any other country, the food is normal, we did not starve, meat is always, fish, lobsters, avocados are not always, but there were, ice cream is very tasty. The waiters tried very hard. In the bar: bottled rum, decent wine, good beer, delicious cocktails. They are poured into both plastic and glass. The coffee is delicious, there is a large selection in the bar. The maid cleaned up every day, changed towels, there were no problems with paper towels and drinking water. There was always hot water. The animators Are Great. They always kept a chocolate bar or a dollar with them, but they gave it only on their own, for good attitude and service. We are delighted with the ocean, the hotel, Cuba and the Cubans!!!

I liked everything.I was energized with positive energy.

The beach is clean, without rocks and sticks. There are no corals.
The beach is equipped with a volleyball net. In the morning, while the sun is not scorching, the animators invite everyone to play volleyball. There are relaxation group classes in the water and on the beach. Sand darts.
The hotel is normal, you can live. The room has an iron, ironing board, hair dryer, refrigerator (empty), air conditioning, TV (not watched), coffee machine (no coffee), safe. The territory of the hotel is well maintained.
The animation works well, there is always some entertainment for the hotel guests.
The rum in the bars is good, drink as much as you want. They pour into glasses without any problems.
The coffee is delicious, you can always wash down a tasteless lunch with delicious coffee.
The staff in bars and canteens is normal and adequate.
A beach towel can be obtained without problems at the central pool. You can also take tennis rackets there (all for free).

Upon arrival, I would like to get more information about the hotel, what is possible, what is not. The guide from pegasus came to the hotel only to sell paid excursions. In general, a useless guide and no information.
The hotel is not like in the photos. In the photo, even the food is present and the tablecloths are on the shelves.
There are a lot of cockroaches from the dining room. Sometimes I wanted to get up and leave when they were already climbing on their feet and on the table. Cockroaches crawl over salad and food. It's scary to imagine what happens in the kitchen at night. We were drinking coffee near a coffee shop, cockroaches were running right on the tables.
Only pasta, meat and rice are served in the dining room (breakfast, lunch and dinner). There is no sauce at all. It is absolutely impossible to eat dry meat without sauce. On the last day, when they began to move out, they brought a large plate of sauce, something like mayonnaise. There is not always lemonade, the syrup is not replenished periodically.
Once there were pancakes for breakfast, and then every day only eggs. There is not always cheese or sausage. There hasn't been anything to eat in the last few days. I'm out of meat. Again, there are problems with the supply of products. Bread is only for breakfast.
There are no confectionery products at all, but there is ice cream, very tasty. Ice cream is only available for lunch and dinner. The waiters give you a spoon, you have to ask. Sometimes they can give you a fork. They pretend to be fools.
I thought that I would make myself a salad similar to caesar, but alas. No sauce. Chicken is extremely rare.
The national dish of Cuba is rice. You will eat it every day. Rice, pasta, meat, eggs, sausage, cheese. The rest is all vegetables. A lot of cabbage and all sorts of zucchini with eggplant, there are beans.
The whole diet will be the same every day. There is very little variety from fruits. Fruits are not sweet.
The staff in the dining room hide glasses so that you turn to them more often and leave tips. I tried beer, it's very similar to the usual beer-flavored syrup.
Signing up for a restaurant is a separate case. The food there is almost the same as in the dining room, only there is no such noise and cockroaches. You need to sign up at 9:30 in the morning. One day I came at 8:30, took a coffee, sat waiting for the recording. People came to record, I skipped them to calmly finish my coffee, as a result, they refused to record me, they said that there were no more places. There weren't a lot of people on the record. There are 3 restaurants on record: Cuban cuisine, international and pizzeria. We wanted a pizzeria, but it doesn't work.
The hotel is normal, but not chic either.
As soon as we arrived at the room, there was cleaning for two days, then they just hammered us. Sweets and chocolates were left for the cleaner every day, apparently she was already tired of eating sweets. Water and toilet paper were no longer brought, we had to look for a cleaning cart and ask for paper with water. The bins in the room were all filled with garbage. They even sent a piece of paper to our door saying "do not disturb, do not clean" so as not to clean the room.
In the room, after lunch, you will not be able to take a nap for a couple of hours. Loud bass and music are hitting your ears. Earplugs won't save you. In the evening from 21:00-00:00 it is also very noisy. It's not worth going into the sun during the day, it burns wildly, you can only doze off. You can easily get a tan in the shade on a sun lounger on the beach. The daytime sun is very harmful.
There are ticks on site. I found a tick that bit into my leg. When they bought the ticket, they said that insurance was already included in the price. We decided to contact the insurance company. They said that the hotel takes a deductible of $ 30, otherwise no help will be provided. Considering that there might not be enough money for emergency care. I asked the insurance company if the tick would be tested for inciphalitis? To which they replied that the tick is absolutely healthy, they do not conduct such a study. The $30 deductible is valid only for one person and for 1 insured event.
The hotel can open a tick breeding business. How else can you make money from tourists?
For any other accident, even through the fault of the hotel, you will have to pay the $30 deductible again. Even a stupid cut on the finger to process. No one will give you first aid for free.

Molesters want to go back and forth along the beach. They are trying to soar whatever it is. They are very annoying, they do not allow you to walk and relax.
We bought an excursion to Havana for $ 75 per person. I didn't like Havana because it was too aggressive. He pestered me a lot. All they need is money. The people are very hungry. I've been to Cuba, checked the box. I don't want to go there anymore. I got more negativity from the rest. Yes, the ocean is very cool, I would never like to leave the beach at all. They wanted to book a room with an ocean view, the hotel Adm. did not give such a room. The ocean is close, but it is almost invisible because of the palm trees. So there is no difference at all.

I asked them to help me weigh my suitcase. I explained to them that I wanted to weigh myself 2 times. Once with a suitcase and the second time without. Refusal. Like go to the airport there and weigh yourself. And they offered me to buy more rum inside the hotel, which I couldn't do. I had to check the weight of the suitcase.
All the hotels belong to the military, as the guide told us. I think the country smacks of dictatorship rather than socialism. There is oil, there is nickel, there is gas, there is sulfur. It is not clear why the country is poor. Tips everywhere require a lot.
Souvenirs were bought at the duty free, at the airport, there is not much choice there, but there is. Prices for souvenirs are different. Something in duty free is cheaper than in a hotel, and something is more expensive.

The children's room, a very friendly Miss Marie, is constantly taking care of the children. Lots of live music, including during dinner. Animation, gorgeous beach, large territory.
I take off the stars for problems with the supply of food, there were no vegetables, the fruits were unripe, bread was periodically missing for several days, well, very salty food is not uncommon.
There are lifeguards on the beach every day who ensure that local beach vendors do not harass vacationers, often beach volleyball.

The best memories of Cuba are of amazing wonderful people, including the hotel staff.

Many of the tourists complained about the food... but do you know what is happening in Cuba right now?! We've been to local shops- there's nothing there! They cook from what grows and is produced on the island. They try their best. Yes, the food is not varied, but it is in sufficient quantity. There is always fish, meat, and chicken. She's either at the buffet, or she's being prepared in front of you and for you. There is always ice cream, it is very tasty. Three times out of 11 days we just gorged on huge crab claws. We got to an amazing holiday - Cuba's Independence Day. This holiday was on the beach. Two suckling pigs were roasted on a spit. Don't expect frills in the food, but as far as possible they will be.
During the day, the most delicious cocktails are served at the bar near the beach. Do not linger by the pool)
But you can have burgers by the pool.

Only the ocean is great, the beach and the hotel grounds are also good and that's it.There is no hot water at all in the hotel, washing with cold water for 12 days is still a pleasure, there is dirt in the room, towels were changed once in 12 days and you put them anywhere or throw them.Neither tips nor gifts help. We rested for 14 days from April 25 to May 9, 2024, the only good thing I can say is the beautiful Ocean. Muthu Playa Varadero Hotel is the bottom!!! There are cockroaches everywhere, naturally in the food too! Of the food for all 14 days, it's rice and pork (which is not pickled) is infernally dry and not tasty!!! For breakfast, eggs, or an omelette, or fried eggs and that's it!!!!! Bread is given only in the morning a little! By the way, you need to leave the queue for 40 minutes for meat!!!! Since it is prepared in small portions, and there are a lot of people in this hotel! Therefore, there are huge queues and very often there may not be enough meat, then you just have to eat rice!!!! The staff is not friendly from the word - AT ALL!!! The rooms are sooooo dirty! They remove them every other time! You need to go and swear at the reception for water and toilet paper, otherwise they simply won't bring them to you, but we eventually left the bottle and collected water ourselves at lunch. The pool is dirty, which is already green!!! It's scary to put your foot in it, not to completely plunge into it!!! The taxi is very expensive to Varadero, it takes about 15 minutes to go one way by taxi for $ 20. Of the fruits, only papaya is tasteless! They brought large chocolates and sweets to the staff , but they don 't need them ! They only need dollars! By the way, we haven 't tried rum in the bar more than once !!! We were told that he was not there !!! Only whiskey, vodka and beer are offered ! Of course, there is no question of any cocktails in this hotel in principle!!! This is the most terrible hotel of all the hiking that is there, as we talked with people from other hotels! (it used to be good, but we were told that the owner changed and everything changed!!!) in short, this hotel is the bottom!!! 4 days before departure, toilet barrels flowed in our room, there was a lot of water in the bathroom and it was very slippery, they went to the reception all day and talked about it, but no one came to fix it! Friendly staff who will smile back at you if you treat them kindly, and not snort and spit bile))) how many such tourists have we seen, it's just creepy, as if we didn't come on vacation, but to swear.
They always cleaned up, left a dollar, and the Swans would be screwed and the floors would be washed with bleach, there were always towels and shower gels! They put water in the room.
Complaints about food.. Are you serious? The hotel always has fish, chicken, pork - and various other dishes besides pasta, potatoes, 4 types of rice, soups, cool bread and rolls, sooooo delicious fruits (we are in season, ripe mangoes, papaya, pineapple, guava. Watermelon and sometimes bananas)
Ice cream of various types is delicious, desserts for dinner, freshly squeezed mango juices for breakfast, etc., different variations of omelets and scrambled eggs. What else is needed? There are vegetables too, but there is a problem with them in Cuba. Food without sauces, not greasy, pleasant to the stomach! This is an excellent meal for Cuba, it was the second time, we know what we are talking about. Seafood can be eaten in Varadero, if you really need it - it's quite budget-friendly.
But all the same, people complained that the fruits were not even the interesting ones they wanted, we overeated ourselves with fruits so that we could barely leave the dining room.
You can also take burgers at the pool bar, one day French fries appeared there (it's a shock for Cuba in general) Do not score, the country has been under sanctions for many years, so there is such tension with the products. if something appeared from the food, they immediately put it out, it seems to me that there are no options for poisoning here at all)) by the way, we noticed that the staff and the hotel are trying, if at least one complaint is received, they immediately run to fix it, well done! The hotel is 4 stars, not a five))
The beach is just incredible, we walked in both directions, and ours seems to be the most cozy, wide beach line and good security! Free catamarans, kayaks, etc. which is also very cool 🔥
The feature of the hotel is the awesome animation team (which we really miss), the guys are great, many of them have been working there for a couple of months, we have become very friendly with them. Their salaries are pennies, so if you have any sunscreen left, give it to them, they will be very grateful)))

At the stop near the hotel, you can catch a retro car and drive to Varadero for $ 10-15, eat lobsters and shrimp there, drink delicious pinacolada. I'll tell you a secret - in these establishments they give rice the same as in the dining room, so I don't understand why people complain about the food, because it's like that everywhere! Cuba has the most wonderful memories, but the hotel is something!
There were 4 times in Cuba, so we did not expect a miracle.The room was normal, shabby of course, but clean. There's a real problem with towels. We managed to get beach tickets only for the 4th day!!! some tourists did not have baths, there were only small ones for the face.During our check-in, the hot water was turned off for 3 days! But the main problem of the hotel is the dining room with cockroaches! They were found in soup, rice and desserts!!! Not only is there practically no choice (it's the same every day), but cooks manage to spoil simple pasta!
And the main contingent of the hotel is local.Apparently the dishes (a mess of incomprehensible vegetables and fried pineapples) are designed for them.
The staff is helpful and try to help.Especially at the reception.But
until the chefs and the canteen staff change, choose another hotel!

We are currently resting at the Muthu Playa Hotel.

But there is a huge and very comfortable bed, a coffee maker, a normal TV (although only music from Russian channels), a good hair dryer, all amenities for the shower, even a small sewing kit. The Internet is free, but you need to renew it periodically at the reception. Catches both in the rooms and on the beach. The food is delicious and very varied.
Some things on the territory and inside the buildings require minor repairs, but when you come on vacation with a positive attitude, it does not interfere in any way. They check in here at 16:00, but we were checked in later because of some problems. Bitterly, we checked in and found that there were no towels in the rooms. None at all. Then the fun began. 3 days of walking to the reception and swearing, they promise us that's it and that's it. THERE ARE NO TOWELS FOR 3 DAYS! fortunately, my husband took towels for the beach. So a miracle happened on the 4th day of rest: after the morning swearing at the reception, towels are brought to us in the evening. For the face, that's all. We're so fucked up already that we're *** with him. On the 5th day they were taken away to wash) and were not returned until the end of the rest (7 days). The towel quest is over.
The safe in the room did not work, but at the request, again, it worked on the reset)))) the tropical shower was broken and it was also mentioned about it, but of course no one repaired it.
When we checked into the room, there were cobwebs on the lamps. That's all you need to know about housekeeping. The linen was changed, but perhaps this is only one plus.
The animation is very cool, it was really interesting to be on the beach and watch the show in the evening. The beach is also good, there are sun beds.
The cuisine is sparse, there is no seafood, only fish and that, constantly the same cooking method. Even tomatoes were something exotic.

There has been no water for the fifth day. All questions are answered - "we have problems with water, we can't do anything. We are praying." At the same time, they refuse to relocate. I talked to the guests who arrived on July 6, they say that there was no water even then. We live on the fifth floor, there is water on the 1st and 2nd floors. About towels - I confirm, they are very ancient, they change if you leave a tip. Food - there are no vegetables and greens at all, it seems they do not know how to grow them, cucumbers only, but they are very overgrown and bitter. There is meat and seafood, fried in front of you. But they do not know how to do this - the meat is tough, the lobster is not tasty. The country is very authentic, there is a place to go. Very cool excursions - sailing on a yacht, chatting with dolphins.

Good day to all! Vacationed with my wife at this hotel in early December 2019. Room 2327 is great. Sea view from the balcony. There is no noise from animation at night. Take a fumigator from mosquitoes (some individuals entered the room). I want to say separately about the air conditioner. You can turn it off only by using the button on the dashboard in the room. The sea and food are SUPER! The staff is good, the waiters are friendly and speak English. Special thanks to our hotel guide Kornienko Dana (she was always at the hotel, we contacted her for any questions). We were a little unlucky with the weather. It has been raining and stormy for the last two days. But gentlemen, who appreciate a real beach holiday on the snow-white sand of the azure sea, and not the age of the furniture and the color of the tiles in the shower stall - come to this hotel and do not be afraid of a long flight!! Freedom Island is worth it!
