Nikoloz (Nikolai) Melitonovich Baratashvili was a romantic poet who lived for only 28 years (1817-1845). The monument is located at the base of Avlabar Hill next to the bridge of the same name on the left bank of the Kura. It was installed in 1976 to mark the 100th anniversary of the poet's publication, not the birth or death of the poet. On the monument to Baratashvili, a romantic, but at the same time impetuous and rebellious image is given. The poet's figure is executed with attention to detail: his thoughtful face, slightly lowered eyes and graceful pose reflect his inner world and creative nature. The authors of the monument tried to give Baratashvili the image that, in their opinion, the poet, who lived only 27 years and whom his contemporaries called the "Georgian Byron", should have.
