Nakkas Cistern is named after a fairly small shopping mall that sells carpets. It's quite easy to find, walk along Sultan Ahmet Square to the opposite end, the Hagia Sophia remains behind, and from the left corner of the square go down a little and to the left and you will see this shopping center, although many people just call it a store. Go through the doors and walk diagonally through the hall, to the far right corner and there is a descent to the bottom, into the tank itself. I must say right away that it is definitely worth visiting and exploring, it may not be very large, but it is worthy of attention, especially since it is of historical value as an object of cultural heritage of ancient Byzantium. The cistern is well lit and the light adds a little mystery to it, but of course it is also a kind of decoration and of course the decoration of the cisterns are the columns supporting the vault, here they are also very interesting and worth paying attention to. The cistern is also a demonstration hall, and here you can see models of the hippodrome, now Sultan Ahmet Square, the Bucoleon Palace, which is currently in ruins and some ancient ceramics, and information materials are posted on the walls, from which you can learn some historical facts and see the plans of the city and the placement of historical buildings in it. objects, as they stood in ancient times. I highly recommend you to visit, especially since Sultan Ahmet Square is always on the list of places to visit for all tourists, and it would be an unacceptable mistake not to visit the Nakkas tank. We found this cistern, thanks to the Rils. It's good that you can watch it for free and understand what kind of structures they are. The tank itself has models and signs with information about the nearby racetrack. The entrance is through a carpet store - we were lucky and no one tried to sell us anything at all. There is an inscription on the door that says that the entrance to the cistern is by appointment and only for the day - we passed quietly and no one told us anything either. There were a couple of people in the tank at that moment.

Impressive. They didn't get into the Basilica cistern - there was a huge queue. Here we got an idea of underground reservoirs for free and without waiting in line. Plus, there is an interesting exposition about the hippodrome square.
There is an announcement on the doors of the carpet store that you can book a visit to the cistern in one day, but there were few visitors, and they let us in right away.

I advise everyone to visit. The cistern is located under the Nakkash carpet store. 5 minutes from Sultanahmet Square and completely free! Just go into the store and in the far right corner there will be a ladder down into the cistern. Go through the store and go down, none of the store staff stops you. The cistern itself also houses a small but interesting exhibition dedicated to the history of the area.

An ancient cistern is hidden under the handmade carpet store of the same name. It's less than the paid ones, but it's not worse.
Come in, you will be greeted by the smiling owners and they will tell you the password "it is possible", do not forget to pet the local cat, which will take you to the basement and brighten up your leisure time. Inside you will be greeted by the history of the hippodrome, which was located parallel to the cistern. It is very informative and visual.

I highly appreciate the entrance to the tank from this store, during the season by appointment, we passed without any problems, in February there are no people, admission is free. The museum view, posters with photos and diagrams of the racetrack, a couple of exhibits, it was very interesting to me. Make sure to schedule it. It is located near the hippodrome and the Malaya Sofia mosque, which I also really liked.

An interesting place. One of the cisterns in Istanbul, but without queue and payment. It has a museum where there is a clear explanation of the Colosseum - columns in the center and so on. But according to the rules, you need to call and arrange at least a day in advance!
The entrance through the carpet store is very interesting. One of the bosses showed us around, gave us coffee, and was very kind (pictured).

Friends, while passing through Istanbul, I visited this store. It positions itself as an elite and as a representative of the absolute quality of everything that is sold in it, especially Turkish goods. We got there by accident, there was a museum marked on Google Mars. Yes, the museum is worth a look, it is not big and there are Cisterns in the hall and tells about the construction of the hippodrome of Constantinople.
But unfortunately, this is all that is wonderful.
From the threshold, you begin to be accompanied by "touts", who look very intelligent and unobtrusive. And after viewing the museum, they are invited to visit a ceramics store, supposedly of the highest quality and originality compared to the whole of Istanbul.
Impressed (it turns out I haven't been in the "insidious embrace" of salespeople for a long time) and you can say that I was moved, I made a purchase of a decanter, allegedly from some rare clay and unusual colors for "some $ 200", although it was originally $ 250 (unfortunately I was not alerted by such an "attraction of unheard-of generosity") and a dream, forgive the idiot, possession of an unusual form of a decanter bought in a place where you are guaranteed the best quality (again , loss of full orientation) , in Istanbul - IT CAME TRUE! Dear reader, he can say that he is an IDIOT himself - and he will be right.
Because I was "given" an obvious shabby product that can be bought for more modest bucks or maybe lira on every corner of beautiful Istanbul (and this is without sarcasm), all people starting from the hotel and the tour desk were extremely and optimally decent (well, if you don't notice the taxi drivers of the Airport-Wherever you Want but also this can be perceived as folklore 🤣) Which I do not want to put up with in relation to the employees of this .. either a shopping mall or a store ..toli selpo!
