For believers, of course, this is a special place, literally a shrine of the Christian faith in Abkhazia, which is undoubtedly worth a visit. Ancient buildings, ancient temple decorations, all kinds of architectural details, iconostasis, murals and other elements that create a special atmosphere of incense and spirituality. Plus, of course, it's worth adding the breathtaking views. But, as they say, there is no such thing as a fly in the ointment. At the entrance to the temple, cars with excursions, both local and Krasnodar, endlessly scurrying back and forth. There are also shopping malls at the foot of the temple, with annoying sellers of products, often of questionable quality. All this certainly spoils the atmosphere and perception.

We were pleased with the stalls with free shawls and skirts, as well as the responsive staff-coordinators at the entrance to the temple.It is a pity that the rest of the complex was under restoration and very little was seen, but this did not mar the overall impression. I will not give any information here about the historical value of this cultural and spiritual heritage, you will find all this on the Runet or hear from guides; I will only say that here you will find a quiet corner for prayer, and write notes for the repose or for the health of loved ones (100 rubles one note with a dozen names), and admire Enjoy the valuable iconography of Slavic masters, and listen to the soothing melodies of the temple service. If anyone is interested, the area near the temple complex is suitable for photo shoots-well-groomed green olives and slender cypress alleys, laid out at the foot of the mountain, overlooking the city and the sea. PS: And in the church shop there are very reasonable prices for icons and other paraphernalia.

We have been to New Athos several times as a family with children, and every time we return, we definitely visit the monastery again. A wonderful place of strength and soul. There is a special atmosphere, silence and peace there. There is no such pretentious beauty. Everything breathes antiquity around. I just want to sit and think alone, to pray..! It is better to leave early before the buses with tourists start arriving. Parking is also available on the territory of the monastery (but it is difficult to leave later because of tourist minibuses /buses), and there are also many places below where you can park and walk, for example, along the path of sinners to the monastery (there are many souvenir shops along the way). For the elderly and young children, the trail can be difficult to climb and descend. Women need to remember that this is a men's monastery and they should go there in appropriate clothes (shoulders and legs should be covered), men also have T-shirts / shirts and trousers / shorts, but below the knee. On the territory in front of the entrance, there are headscarves and skirts to tie - you can get them on the spot too. There are several church stalls, you can submit notes, buy consecrated crosses / icons, candles. 🕯️ The only drawback is that the toilet is not very large, and it has already become chargeable outside the monastery. But at least it's clean, they're looking after it.
