I definitely recommend you to visit, regardless of your religious beliefs. If you believe, then it is worth visiting the place considered the holiest in Montenegro and, perhaps, the most visited by pilgrims in the Balkans. Miracles happen here. If you don't believe it, then you should take a look at the monastery, built on a vertical wall back in the 17th century. The atmosphere and views here are amazing. Pilgrims traditionally walk the last 3 km on foot with bare feet in any weather. If you just look, you can drive part of the way along the serpentine road to the parking lot, and walk the rest. Cars with passengers with limited mobility, children or the elderly can drive to the top parking lot at the very entrance to the monastery. The monastery has a small church with frescoes from the 17th century, where the relics of St. Basil of Ostrog are kept, where you can pray and receive a blessing. We were on a weekday at the end of October - there was no queue at all and parking was free.

If you are in Montenegro, be sure to visit Ostrog, the main shrine of the country, where both travelers and tourists come. Ostrog is an active Serbian monastery (11 monks in total), which was founded in the 17th century. It is carved into the rock and preserves the relics of St. Basil of Ostrog, which are considered miraculous. There's a constant queue for the relics, so you'll have to stand for a while, but it's worth it, believe me. The atmosphere is incredible! The temple is sacred. Being there, you arrive in a state of lightness and peace of mind. Be sure to visit the Prison and remember the state of Mind that you feel.

An incredibly powerful place! The temple in the rock! We are thrilled! I would like to return there again! The road is winding and very narrow in places, but the views are so gorgeous 😍

Initially, it is fascinating to drive along the narrow road to the monastery. The view from the monastery is amazing. The monastery was recommended to visit by a local guide and we were very satisfied. It turns out that this is one of the most important shrines of Orthodoxy. A must-visit.

It's a great place. From Budva, drive through Polgorica. But there's nothing to do there. The relics of the Saint are kept in the prison. The road along the serpentine. It's better not to go on weekends because there are a lot of pilgrims.

A beautiful, powerful place! On the downside: there are problems with parking, queues at the relics. It's better not to visit on weekends, everything is too crowded.

Ostrog Monastery is one of the most revered monasteries of the Orthodox Church, located high in the mountains of the central part of Montenegro, about 8 km from the town of Niksic. It was founded around the 17th century by Saint Basil of Ostrog, whose name became a symbol of the holiness and spirituality of the whole country. Basic facts: 1. The history of the foundation The monastery was founded between 1665-1670 by monk Basil, who later became a famous Orthodox ascetic and wonderworker. Vasily Ostrogsky lived most of his life here, performing miracles of healing, for which he soon became known far beyond the borders of Montenegro. The upper monastery is located at an altitude of almost 900 meters above sea level, literally cut into the rock, offering a picturesque panorama of the mountains and valleys of Montenegro. The lower monastery is located just below the mountainside.

The Orthodox monastery founded by Vasily Ostrogsky. The monastery is located in a cliff at an altitude of 900 meters. It's a very beautiful place. The road to the monastery is mountainous, winding, and very narrow, which makes it very difficult for cars to leave.

We visited in January 2025. Fog was coming down from the mountains, but the view was good. The mountain views from the observation deck are very beautiful. There are few visitors and we were able to park right in front of the entrance. If you stop at the bus stop below, then the trip to the monastery will not be easy.

A wonderful place of worship for an Orthodox shrine. People are also asking for healing from ailments. The local ministers are friendly. The view is very beautiful. The miracle of the grape vine that grows from sala. But the road to it leads along a mountain serpentine. Being unaccustomed to the Air Force was scary. I was driving a taxi with an experienced local driver. I can give you his contacts. Speaks Russian

It is a very beautiful place, but at any time of the year there are many pilgrims and long queues. The store in the monastery itself has gifts for every purse, but you will have to stand in line, although the local women try very hard to let everyone go quickly.

Grace visits your heart and soul in this beautiful monastery 🤍 It is impossible to describe in words 🙏 I took a local train from Podgorica to Dobaeci station, where taxis are waiting for the trains to arrive. To the lower monastery 5 euros, to the upper 10 euros. I walked back: from the upper to the lower monastery 3 km is about 40 minutes, from the lower monastery to the station it takes longer than 3.5 km along the scenic road for about an hour.

The most important and holiest place in Montenegro. I have already been there many times and again and again there is a need to visit it. After overcoming a steep and narrow serpentine with a frightening sheer cliff, sometimes without proper fencing and the risk of meeting an oncoming car in the narrowest place or on a steep bend. You find yourself in a small, and very unconventional monastery. There is no familiar temple there. Several small chapels, everything that in ancient times could be located in a sheer cliff. In one of these chapels are the incorruptible relics of Vasily Ostrogsky. It is surprising that a human figure can be guessed under the veil without obvious signs of shrinkage, as is typical for most relics. If you come on weekdays, you can venerate the relics freely, without fuss and crowds. It is necessary to visit the upper terrace - a favorite place of prayer and later - the resting place of the Saint. A vine planted by Vasily Ostrogsky grows right out of the rock there, which bears fruit to this day. And the view from there is majestic. You can climb to the monastery on foot, along a narrow forest path surrounded by abundantly blooming snowdrops, or cyclamen.

It's worth a visit, but there are days when there are a lot of pilgrims. People from all the surrounding regions consider it important for themselves not just to venerate the relics of St. Basil, but to spend the night in the monastery, they sleep right on the square. We were on weekdays in the morning, it was free everywhere, literally half an hour later there were many times more visitors. From the outside, you can photograph the monastery only from a couple of points. If you go down the stairs to the lower monastery, there may be more view locations. The temple itself is interesting, the most unusual of those that I have visited. Beautiful mosaics. A holy and iconic place for the Orthodox. The road to it is narrow along a serpentine, there are times when oncoming traffic drives along the very edge of the abyss. There is an upper and lower parking, a free toilet behind the parking lot. Neither men nor women are allowed to visit the relics in shorts, even if they are below the knee. There are skirts and shawls at the entrance.

A place in Montenegro that made an indelible impression on me.💣💣💣 Which I was absolutely thrilled to visit. 🔥🔥🔥And I've never seen anything like it before. 💯💯💯 Ostrog Monastery. The prison is a truly unique structure. A monastery is located high above the sea, carved right into the rock! The rock niche is located at an altitude of 900 m above sea level, and you need to get there along a narrow mountain serpentine. 🗾 The monastery has two levels, and there are the most important sights of the monastery and two churches, including the ark with the miraculous relics of St. Basil. According to some sources, Ostrog Monastery ranks third in the world in terms of the number of pilgrims after the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem and Mount Athos in Abkhazia.🌏 Ostrog (Serbian.Ostrog) is an active Serbian Orthodox monastery located high in the mountains. It was founded in the 17th century. Currently, 12 monks live in the monastery. ☦️ They say it's usually just a crowd of pilgrims. The huge queue at the entrance can reach hundreds of people! We were incredibly lucky, perhaps because of the nebula.🌫️☁️ But there were quite a few people. There are also dormitories in the monastery, but, of course, often all the places are occupied. That is why a large number of believers spend the night on the street in front of the monastery during the warmer months, and they are all given blankets. The experience of many believers shows that spending a night in the open air in a prison is really an indescribable feeling. This is really the power of faith! 😵‍💫 Spending the night on stone slabs in a crowd of strangers, high up in a mountain monastery, right on the street! 🫨 It is best to go to the sanctuary suddenly and without a specific plan, that is, as it is believed, "when Saint Basil calls you." It was us, apparently, that he called. Because we came here literally at random, not really expecting anything. 🚘And they were wrong . This is probably one of the most amazing places I've ever visited in my life! 🔥🔥🔥

We went in winter, it was cool, But nature and service on the mountain in the open air, this is something that is not clogged. The brethren of the monastery are always glad to see Russian pilgrims

A beautiful place in the mountains. The relics of St. Nicholas are located here. Vasily Ostrogsky. In Serbia and Montenegro, he is revered as a priest. Sergius of Radonezh or St. Sergius of Radonezh. Seraphim of Sarov in Russia. Therefore, there are almost always many pilgrims in the prison.

If you are driving in your own car, be careful, it is better to go early before 9:00, until there are many tourist buses heading there. The road is very narrow, along a serpentine and in places only for one car, it is difficult to separate. And yes, there are a lot of pilgrims on weekends and closer to lunch.

Although I am not a religious person, however, the monastery struck me with its appearance. Unlike our Russians, where "more gold is needed" and "more expensive and richer", everything is modest and concise. It is located right in the rock. To get there either on foot (almost 3 km by stairs) or by car, because it will be problematic for the bus. Holy water and oil are distributed free of charge in the souvenir shop, you can take it if not for yourself, then at least for your family or friends.
