The construction of the Svyatodukhovskaya Church is associated with two events: the appearance of the miraculous icon of the Most Holy Theotokos and the allocation of an allotment of land in 1637 for the maintenance of the clergy of the newly established church in the Forest. From generation to generation, local villagers pass on legends and traditions about the history of the Orthodox church. The first of them has its roots in the XV-XVI centuries. According to legend, a girl blind from birth was walking along the road from Podlesye to Zaritovo. Then, as now, the beginning and the end of the village were marked with crosses. There was a large stone next to the cross, and when the girl approached it, she regained her sight. And the image of the Mother of God appeared to her on the stone. This miracle inspired the villagers to build a tent on the site, and then a chapel. The fame of the miraculous icon spread throughout the surrounding area. In the 17th century, Mstislavsky voivode Georgy Sapieha, during a serious illness, went on foot to worship the icon of the Mother of God and vowed to himself that if he was healed, he would build a church here. After a miraculous recovery, George Sapieha, in gratitude, erected the first Orthodox church here in 1637. The ancient temple did not last long and (for unknown reasons) disappeared in the 18th century. In 1879, a three-tiered iconostasis was built in the church, which was decorated with 7 icons of ancient and 5 of later writing. In 2009, an important event occurred in the life of Podles parishioners — a boulder was discovered, which, according to assumptions, is the very stone on which the icon of the Mother of God appeared. Today, this stone, which has its own mysterious history, is kept at the altar of the temple.
