⛪ 1. This beautiful church is right next to Batumi Piazza, in the heart of the city. 2. It was built between 1865 and 1871 by the Greek community of Batumi, led by Mayor Ilya Efremidi. 3. The land was donated by Efremidi, and local Greeks raised money to build it. 4. At first, the Turkish authorities allowed the church only without bells. 5. In 1878, after Batumi joined the Russian Empire, a bell was added. 6. The church became a center of Greek life, with schools and a famous choir. 7. In the Soviet era, it was closed for almost 20 years, then reopened in 1946 thanks to local efforts. 8. It was restored again in 1998–1999, inside and outside. 9. The church holds icons of St. Nicholas, Virgin Mary, and St. George, gifted by Greeks from Chios Island. 10. Today, it belongs to the Georgian Orthodox Church and welcomes everyone. 11. To pour holy water, it is better to bring a bottle with you and turn to the altar, fill it in the altar room. Candles can be purchased at the Temple, from 0.3 lari to 1.5 lari.
