Aya sanatorium in Tskaltubo. The sanatorium was built in 1970-1985 by architects R. Kakhashvili, F. Kuparashvili, M. Chutkerashvili and T. Khufarashvili. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, the sanatorium was closed and abandoned. However, the buildings did not remain empty for long: in 1992, a war broke out in the neighboring region of Abkhazia, and about 8,000 refugees received temporary shelter in the empty Tskaltubo sanatoriums, including Ayu. The sanatorium was built in the modernist style of the 70s and 80s. On the ground floor there is a perfectly preserved mosaic depicting the winemaking process. An interesting fact is that the image of grapes on this mosaic is made of round pieces. Scraps of wallpaper and remnants of furniture, which serve as witnesses to the former luxury of the sanatorium. The building is gradually collapsing, the roof is leaking in places, and the floor is falling through. It is necessary to walk around the sanatorium with caution, as the building is abandoned. People still live on the upper floors.

Visiting the abandoned sanatorium "Hotel Aia" in Tskaltubo became for me a real immersion in the atmosphere of the past, when this place was full of life and energy. Dilapidated walls and ruined interiors, covered with the dust of time, seem to tell their story to everyone who looks in here.
