The place is very interesting, but there are too few halls with exhibits for such a huge and impressive building. In fact, of the three floors for the museum itself, only half of the first floor and part of the third. If there are more halls, it will become much more interesting. Ancient manuscripts on cartography, medicine and many other fields are on display in the existing halls. For those who do not speak English, please note that there are practically no signs in Russian, only in Armenian and English.

Be sure to visit, you won't regret it. The history of Christianity in Armenia, many ancient manuscripts and an interesting tour for adults and children (in Russian!). Did you know that hedgehog bile was also used to create the illustrations? I learned a lot of new things. Vintage illustrations are a separate topic.

The building was built in 1959. The richest collection of manuscripts, more than three thousand. In Russian, Hebrew, Latin, Arabic, Syriac, Greek, Georgian, Indian, Japanese, Persian, Azerbaijani. The museum's collections contain 2,281 old printed (before 1800) books. You have to come here several times to feel the full power and strength of human civilization.

We went to the museum for the second time, but this time we took an individual guide and did not lose. Nana's guide told us in an incredibly interesting way about the history of Armenia and the origin of most of the books presented in the museum. Considering that we went with a teenager, my daughter was very interested. The museum is developing and improving, taking into account the past 9 years since the first visit, we were very, very pleased with the visit. By the way, guided tickets cost a total of 2,000 rubles.

Matenadaran is obligatory for everyone to attend. The ancient manuscripts stored there evoke not only admiration for the skill of the people who created them, but also awe of the sacred texts contained in them. Be sure to take a guide to visit this museum.

I recommend. We did not get a tour guide, I strongly advise you to book it by phone, it is on the website. We passed by ourselves, the information is available in English and Armenian, we passed all the halls in two hours. Very interesting exhibits, evidence of a long history. There is a good souvenir shop both inside the museum and next to the ticket office. The building also makes an impression

This museum not only immerses you in the history of the Armenian people's writing, but also makes you look at the history of world civilizations in a different way. It is absolutely necessary to take a tour of the museum, without a guide, the exhibits on display are just a set of pictures. We were very lucky to have a guide, it turned out to be the beautiful Lina Piradova, who represents an entire epoch in her own right.

A very unusual and interesting collection of books that must be viewed with a guide. It is difficult for a non-expert to distinguish one folio from another and find the smallest and largest Bible in the book diversity of the halls.

A magnificent museum with unparalleled exhibits! It is a unique pleasure to see live the originals of thousands of years old books and manuscripts in excellent condition. The technical equipment of the museum is also excellent, and it is pleasant and convenient to look at the exhibits.

The exterior of the building is interesting, I couldn't get inside (September 1). Apparently, it was considered a non-working and public holiday. But there were no ads at the closed cash register.

An unusual repository of various religious artifacts. There is no point in taking the tour, it costs 2.5 ticket prices, it is overloaded with information that is impossible to remember the first time. But it's worth going through several halls!

Excursion adult - 1500 drams, child - 200 drams (9 years old), guide - 5000 drams. When paying, they ask in what language the guide is needed. Guide Angelica - super thanks to her, and that you were lucky to get on it. She showed me everything, told me for 70-75 minutes, including our questions. High competence in various questions. The museum is open from 10 to 17, you need to come in advance to have time to listen to the guide and, if desired, wander yourself. There are lockers that can be closed so as not to carry things with you - it is convenient, this is in addition to the wardrobe. The exposition itself is a very small part of what they have stored, alas ((. But it's also impressive, at least for me. Every month, something else is exposed. That is, with every rare visit, you can see something new.

The Mesrop Mashtots Research Institute of Ancient Manuscripts (also known as Matenadaran, "repository of manuscripts" in Armenian) is not only a research organization, but also a museum open to visitors. My friends and I visited on April 30th, 2024. We studied the schedule, prices and reviews in advance: admission for one adult costs 1500 drams, an excursion in Russian costs 5000 drams for the whole group. I should note that it is unlikely to be interesting and understandable without a guide, but we were very lucky to have her. It was accessible and entertaining. There are tens of thousands of manuscripts in the vaults, not only in Armenian, but also in Arabic and many other languages. The oldest specimens date back to the VII–VIII century AD. The museum is open from Tuesday to Saturday from 10 to 17. Tickets can be purchased on site, paid in cash or by card.

We visited with an excursion without an appointment. We just arrived at 12:00 on a weekday. It is probably better to book an excursion in advance, because you may not be lucky, and there will be no free guides. The tour was conducted by Lina, it was very interesting. It will probably not be interesting without a tour, because apart from the names in several languages (not all exhibits are signed in Russian), there is no more information. Definitely worth a visit.

This is the most interesting museum that I have ever visited. Ancient manuscripts dating back to the 5th and 4th centuries BC are preserved and exhibited in excellent condition. Of particular admiration is the collection of colored miniatures (ancient illustrations for books), which are preserved in such a state as if they were written quite recently. The highest professionalism of the guides is also admired. These are highly erudite, enthusiastic and deeply intelligent employees. I advise everyone who visits this museum to use the services of a guide. Our guide was Amelia. My son and I are grateful to her for her amazing inspirational story about the museum's exhibits and the history of Armenia.

This is the heritage, history, and greatness of the Armenian people, which has been preserved through centuries of war and deprivation of the Armenians. At the cost of their lives, people preserved the heritage, priceless manuscripts of the ancient Armenian people and the Armenian nation.

I visited the Matenadaran Museum of Ancient Manuscripts in Yerevan this summer. For Russian-speaking tourists, we were assigned a tour guide Lina, who has worked at this institute-museum for more than 40 years. She knows literally every exhibit of the museum thoroughly, which was very pleased and interested. The tour was held in one go, listening to Lina is a pleasure. I recommend visiting this museum and you will be impressed for a lifetime!

The history of Armenia through the prism of an interesting exposition of the oldest manuscripts and books. We came across a competent guide Lina, who told us in detail about the exhibition. There are several halls, including those with the cultural heritage of Artsakh.Without an excursion, in my opinion, it will be difficult to understand and appreciate something in the Matenadaran.

A unique collection. It's worth a look. We paid AMD 5,000 for the tour + entrance tickets. I give 4 stars because of the tour of the factory, we were unlucky. This is the first time I've seen this, the tour consisted of reading the tablets, Israel did not tell us any interesting facts or stories. I was very upset by this approach. After the tour, during self-examination, I went eavesdropping on other tourists, found out that the smallest book in the collection is made from the skin of a calf embryo and weighs only 19 grams. Our guide, if you can call it that, did not tell us this. After the Matenadaran, we went on an excursion to the Yerevan History Museum, it was very interesting, thanks to the guide Liana. That's another story)

Very interesting! The exposition is small (3 halls), but there are a lot of completely old books: both handwritten and printed. It is better to get there by taxi, because it is quite far from the center. And on the hill. It works from 10 to 17, the ticket is inexpensive.

It probably doesn't make sense without a guide. There are a lot of books and I wouldn't understand their value without outside help. It is necessary to have some initial training in the history of religion. When the guide asks a question, I felt like a schoolboy with lessons not learned. It was sometimes well saved by other members of the group who answered the questions correctly. I would suggest dividing the tours into different levels. There is a luggage storage, a wardrobe, a souvenir shop
