The monument was unveiled on June 24, 1991, to mark the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Edinburgh Federation of Builders. Author: sculptor Gerald Lang. Description: A life-size bronze statue is mounted on a simple stone pedestal. If you stand in front of her and look up, you might think that Holmes was deep in thought, looking at the sidewalk. The monument is dedicated to the birthplace of the Scottish writer Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, who was born on May 22, 1859 at No. 11 Picardi Place.
