Stunning views of the valley. The ascent takes about 30-35 minutes at a brisk pace. It is better to arrive early in the morning, we were at 7-10. It opens at 7-00. When we went down, there was already a crowd of tourists from the buses, I think it will be much more difficult to climb in the crowd. Lots of funny monkeys.

A beautiful place, some of the buildings and ancient frescoes have been preserved, but how Sigiriya looked before can only be imagined. The frescoes represent semi-naked women, who are forbidden to be photographed :), and special staff are vigilant about observing this rule. Be prepared for a steep climb in the heat, take plenty of water. There were water tanks in the middle of the way, but there may be queues.

Sigiriya is an ancient fortress mountain built in the 3rd century A.D. The place is worth a visit to get to know the history, culture and architecture of ancient Sri Lanka. I do not recommend taking an excursion: it is better to read the story in advance. I advise you to climb the mountain, although it's not easy in the heat and with queues. There is a very strong wind blowing at the top, and there are many pools of water. The entrance to the mountain is crowned by the paws of a lion, according to legend, the head collapsed. I also advise you to visit the museum, where frescoes from Sigiriya are on display.

One of the best places to visit on the island. Climbing is not as scary as it sounds if you take your time. The view is amazing. It is worth going around the whole plateau in a circle. Ruins, of course, are like ruins, just a foundation. It was easy to get there without a guide, you can listen from the Russian-speaking guides) there are no annoying insects. In the middle of the climb, at the tiger's paws, opposite, there are taps with water to wash and rest. The climb took no more than an hour, starting from the boulders. You can meet a lot of Russians) in general, we recommend it, we were satisfied!

The views are breathtaking, a UNESCO monument, and not everyone can climb 1,200 steps in 30 degree heat. It is better to listen to an audio guide or browse the information on the Internet, the guides will not say anything new, and it is very difficult to understand them. At the foot of this cliff, souvenirs are sold at the beginning and at the end of the journey (different entrances and exits). It's better to reach the end. There's more choice, you can bargain. Recommend 👍

It's an incredibly beautiful place. It is necessary to go up there at sunset or dawn. It's high and fast to climb, but it's worth it. Walking dogs can be found at the top. And there are 2 roads that can be climbed. The one that leads to the left is faster. And guided tours lead directly up the stairs to climb the cliff again. We went to the left and were very happy about it.

I definitely recommend to visit, spend the night in a hotel at the foot of the mountain. We came by car, bought tickets, you can take a Russian-speaking guide ($ 30-40), we did not take a guide, there are signs everywhere. The level of the mountain is not difficult, even elderly people walk. I recommend getting up in the morning, it will be very hot in the afternoon, you can burn out.

A wonderful attraction, there is a Russian-speaking guide, when we started climbing, we met a snake. We climbed for 50 minutes, it was very difficult, but there are stops where you can fill water bottles, as well as a lot of dogs. We met a beautiful sunset. In general, I recommend it to everyone

An interesting place. The entrance is expensive ($ 40), but the money goes to the restoration. Climbing is not as difficult as it seems. Drawings of half-naked concubines on a stone have been preserved (photos are prohibited). It is under the protection of UNESCO. Macaques roam at the entrance, by the way, upstairs too. At the very top, only the foundation and steps have been preserved. Beautiful 360 degree view of the jungle and Pidurangulu. I can't recommend it, for an amateur. There are much more interesting places (train, nine-arch bridge, spiral tower of Ambuluvava).

It is much easier to climb to the top (the climb does not require physical training, the route is fully equipped, the tourist flows are separated) than to get to Sigiriya from Unawatuna (the road took 6 hours one way). In the middle of the climb, there is a platform in front of the cliff, there is a source of drinking water - you don't have to carry a large supply with you. It's better to get up before 10 a.m. or after 4 p.m. - you can meet the sunset, it's very beautiful. The neighboring Pidurangala Mountain is visible from the top. It is better to visit both mountains in one day, it is quite realistic and not very tiring.

An amazing place with spectacular views. Getting there is certainly not the easiest way, but it was worth it. There are a lot of monitor lizards on the territory. Before the very last ascent, near the paws, there is a toilet and drinking water

An impressive, majestic place. The palace is a rock, with huge gardens, ancient pools, frescoes and fountains. If you are afraid of heights, then it will be difficult for you to climb to the top of the cliff - the ascent is carried out by a flimsy metal ladder, cantilevered resting on a sheer cliff... if you are wearing slippers, be careful, you may lose your slippers))

It's worth visiting Sigiriya. Be sure to take a guide who will tell you about the king, the concubines, the fortress and why all the steps are made of white marble.

Lion Rock is a rocky plateau rising 370 meters above sea level and about 170 meters above the surrounding plain in the very center of the island of Sri Lanka. Since 1982, Sigiriya has been protected by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. We were here in early March. A very impressive place, the beauty of nature from the highest point. Unreal views of nature and mountains open up here. We climbed this mountain for 2 hours, in the heat of course this is a test, but when we got up to the end we realized that it was worth it! At the very top is the Prince Kashyap pool. Also at the very top there is an illuminated place - a favorite motif of the Sigiriya wall painting — naked concubines. There are only 18 images of concubines with servants as of 2014. But these works cannot be photographed. These images are very impressive. In general, we were satisfied with this location. We recommend everyone to visit here if you have the opportunity!

An amazing place to visit, especially in December, when there are very few tourists. You climb up the stairs, there are many flights so that you can relax. While you're climbing, it's one thing to get to know the monkeys (just don't touch or scare them). You can take great photos at the top. The jungle is visible in the palm of your hand. There used to be a king's palace in these places, only the walls, the pool, and the throne have survived to this day. I recommend you to visit!

The sensations are indescribable, unreal when you climb to the very top.. The frescoes are similar in color saturation to the Egyptian ones, it's just a pity that there are so few of them... we went up in December 2023, a tropical downpour started in the middle, but at the very top it feels like above the clouds.. I advise you to definitely go if you come to Sri Lanka!

An interesting place! We didn't regret that we allocated 4 hours for this attraction. She was worth it. Do not spare from $ 75-100 for a guide . It's really interesting. If you decide to take a cheaper guide, you will definitely be offered)) . Most likely, his vocabulary of Russian words will not be enough for an interesting story . And they will tell you what you can read in the review on the Internet. The most exciting thing about climbing up is the metal ladder for the remaining third of the way. Believe me, it takes your breath away, it can not be called reliable externally))) . If you don't want to stand in traffic on this staircase too, then get ready to go up early at 7- 7.30 am. After that, you will wait for those who are climbing ahead, the view from the mountain is magnificent. I don 't know if I can get up before sunrise . It would be cool to watch. In my opinion, it's definitely worth a visit!!!

An amazing place! I've been wanting to get there for a long time. The climb is not very difficult if you walk slowly. The whole visit, from the museum to the exit, took us almost 3 hours. It cannot be described, it must be seen. The king who built it knew a lot about the beautiful life.

As I read in one of the reviews before the trip, Sigiriya is a leg day!))That's the way it is, but it's worth it.You feel like Indiana Jones, it's just an amazing place. The views are incredibly beautiful, the very idea of standing on a rock is in the 5th century...The ladder of trust does not inspire confidence, it is shaky, there are a lot of people, queues, but to visit Lanka without visiting Sigiriya would be a failure.I definitely recommend you to visit, emotions and memories for a lifetime!!!

Well done Sri Lankans, they have preserved history. The system of internal drainage from the top of the mountain and fountains in the garden is impressive. We were here in July 2024, there are no fountains in summer. Be sure to climb to the top platform, the view is impressive. and be sure to visit the cave with frescoes.

A great place to visit. But you need to take a guide, individually or with a group, it doesn't matter. With an understanding of the history of this place, everything is better perceived. And of course, the scale of construction in those days without technology is impressive. In general, a good alternative and a warm-up against bedsores on the beach. In general, all the interesting historical sites in Sri Lanka are located in the center of the island. It is more than 200 km from any beach. Therefore, it is optimal to take a few days to visit historical sites, immediately from the airport to go to the center of the island, and then to the outskirts, where there are beach hotels. You will not need to spend half a day on the road for each excursion.

One of the best historical sites in Sri Lanka. However, rather dangerous narrow iron stairs lead up and it was quite unpleasant to climb in a downpour, although it was worth it: the cruel king Kashyap at the end of the 5th century ordered a palace to be built on an impregnable rock for 7 years, and gardens, pools and fountains to be laid out at its foot (they function to this day). He set up a throne by the pools and daily chose one of 500 concubines for himself, they were also depicted on the walls of the rock in the so-called 140x40m mirror gallery. It was discovered by John Steele in 1907 and described as "perhaps the largest painting in the world." To date, only 18 images of concubines have survived.

It's a very beautiful place! In general, the history, the place, and the traditions are very interesting. I recommend going not to tour places, but to places where people live. To eat where they eat, to listen to what they say, to go to private plantations of cinnamon, mangoes, bananas. You will learn a lot of new things.
