The Sorbonne is not just a university, but the whole history of Paris. You walk through the Latin Quarter, and it seems that the very air is saturated with knowledge and student spirit. At one time, only Latin was spoken here, hence the name of the quarter. The buildings are impressive: you can feel that French science and printing originated here, because the first printing house in France appeared in the Sorbonne. Cardinal Richelieu restored the university, and now it looks like a real symbol of education. Of course, I also remember the stormy May 1968, when students literally turned the system around, and after that 13 new universities appeared in Paris. The Sorbonne has become part of a large network, but it still remains the heart of French studies. The atmosphere of the Latin Quarter is special: there are young people around, cafes, bookstores, noisy conversations. Most of the passers—by are students, and you can feel it. It's easy to imagine yourself as a part of this story, even if you're just walking by.

One of the most famous universities in the world, embodying science, pedagogy, the history of knowledge and just history. He walked around with respect and reverence, singing in a Russian accent: "Gaudeamus igtur, Juvnes dum sumus." At the same time, I certainly remember about May 1968, when a wave of student riots swept across France, after which the Sorbonne was reorganized and divided into 13 independent universities. Today, the Université de Paris is the collective name for all these universities located in different parts of the city, but the University of Paris itself ceased to exist after these events. So that's it..

Magnificent wall paintings and paintings depicting allegorically the sciences. We visited the grave of Cardinal Richelieu in the Sorbonne Cathedral.
