It's a wonderful place! Large clean area, there is a free toilet. The mosque itself has a TV guide in Russian. The mosque itself and the tombs are very beautiful. It was interesting to see the local cemetery, roses are already blooming here in April. Amazing view of the Bosphorus!
Our self-guided tour was pleasantly complemented by a canteen for our own (this is no longer on the territory of the complex, but literally behind the wall). For 580 lire, we got lunch for two: two good portions of fried chicken pieces (like goulash, but without sauce), a portion of chorba and two bowls of stewed vegetables.

One of my favorite places in Istanbul. Great views and atmosphere!
The Suleymaniye Mosque is the second largest and, until its opening in 2019, the first mosque in Istanbul. It is located in the old part of the city, in the Vefa district.
The mosque was built by order of Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent by architect Sinan in 1550-1557. The dome is 53 meters high and 27.5 meters in diameter.
It's all very majestic.
Suleymaniye is a huge complex with schools (madrasas), a hammam, kitchens, a library, an observatory and the crypt of architect Sinan. The total area of the territory is about 70 thousand m2.
There is a cemetery in the courtyard of the mosque, and Suleiman himself is buried here in two neighboring mausoleums.

The atmosphere there is something special: very calm, bright and spacious. The area around the mosque is well maintained, the views of the city are amazing, especially at sunset!
Inside, everything is very beautiful and harmonious, without unnecessary luxury, but with incredible energy. There are fewer tourists than in Hagia Sophia, so you can take a quiet walk and enjoy the moment. Definitely worth a visit!

The Suleymaniye Mosque is a real pearl of Istanbul and one of the most impressive monuments of Ottoman architecture. The majestic building of the 16th century impresses with its scale: four minarets rush into the sky to a height of more than 70 meters, and a huge dome seems to float in the air.
The mosque's interior is stunning in its harmony and sophistication. The stained glass windows are especially impressive, through which soft light pours, creating an amazing play of colors on the walls and floor. Elegant calligraphy, geometric patterns and delicate painting - all the decorative elements are thought out to the smallest detail.
Suleymaniye is not just a mosque, but an entire architectural complex built in 1557 by order of Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent. Chief architect Sinan has created a real masterpiece here, where every detail is thought out to the smallest detail. The complex includes a hospital, a madrasa, a library and a hammam - a real city within a city!
The courtyard with a fountain for ablutions deserves special mention - an atmosphere of peace and tranquility reigns here.

Before this mosque, there were blue mosques, the courtyard is similar, but bigger, inside there is a delightful atmosphere of peace and quiet, the ceilings are more beautifully painted than in blue, there is a stand with free copies of the Koran in different languages, including Russian. There is a cemetery nearby.
It was just beautiful to me.
Now about my wife, who watched 100500 episodes of the magnificent century, she was delighted, because there are places marking the burial sites of Hurrem and Suleiman the Magnificent, his daughters, etc., it's also atmospheric, everything is beautifully decorated, there is a small fountain on the territory of the tombs. She said that some episodes were filmed here.
There is a generally clean toilet on site (the system is like at bus stations without a toilet, it costs 10 lira) and a shop with water and snacks.
I advise you to go there earlier and immediately look at the schedule, because you can take pictures on the territory later, but you don't need to get to the mosque itself during prayers.
In general, of course, it is worth visiting this mosque just to feel the beauty and splendor of this place.
There are several exits, it is better to take a shoe bag with you.

One of the most vivid impressions of my trip is the Suleymaniye Mosque. It is a place of incredible beauty and power. It was there that I felt a real unity with God. During the prayer, tears rolled down my cheeks by themselves — it touched my soul so deeply.
The architecture is amazing — the grandeur, harmony and silence in which time seems to freeze. Nearby are the graves of Sultan Suleiman and his daughter Mihrimah. Everything is saturated with history and a special light.
And somewhere in the distance, the Bosporus lapped like a quiet reminder of eternity.

It is open to the public for free (at least for now).
There is an observation deck with a magnificent view of the city.
Inside, everything is luxurious and, most importantly, friendly. The floor is heated, but tourists are lying on it on a cold March day.
The rules are still the same - take off your shoes and hide your hair.

One of the many beautiful locations in Istanbul.
It is convenient to get here from any area.
We recommend walking across the white bridge (where the metro stops) and climbing the streets into the hill. Only 15-20 minutes.
The way back is either through the Grand Bazaar or the metro/tram in any direction.
Beautiful territory and beautiful architecture. And most importantly - a great view point!!!
A selfie stick is a must, especially for an overview photo of the city.
