These thin openwork arches, with a total weight of 6,000 tons, were built over a new highway north of Doha to the Luasil district in preparation for the World Cup, when the whole city and the country were born anew for the surrounding mara, transformed beyond recognition. The Arches of Al-Wahda are the tallest and most famous architectural monument in Qatar (except for the tall buildings themselves, of course). They serve as the gateway to Doha's West Bay business district. The unique intertwined and slightly inclined arches with an almost transparent screen between them are very beautiful in the evening. As we passed under them, the Qatari flag flashed on the screen.
