The Linnaeus Museum belongs to Uppsala University and is open during the warmer months from May to September. It consists of two parts - the Linnaeus Garden (the old botanical garden) and the professor's house. The garden was founded by Professor Olof Rudbeck Sr. in 1655. It was the first botanical garden in Sweden. Then the garden fell into disrepair, but in 1745 it was restored by Carl Linnaeus. In the garden, Linnaeus conducted his experiments with plants, he bought a marble statue of Venus de' Medici for him. In 1787, Gustav III presented the university with the extensive garden of Uppsala Castle for the construction of a new botanical garden, and now the main university botanical garden with many plants and greenhouses is located there. Another attraction of the museum is the professor's house, which was also built by Rudbeck and later rebuilt by Linnaeus. Linnaeus lived here with his family during the cold season. (They spent the summer at the Linnean Hammarby country estate, where the museum is now located.) After Linnaeus' death, other professors lived in the house, and in 1934 the house was transformed into a museum, in which the interiors of the XVIII century were restored. In front of the entrance there is a sculpture of the young Linnaeus, by sculptor Carl Eldh.
