Yerevan cable car. Connects the city center with the Nork plateau. It has a length of 540 meters with a height difference of about 110 meters.  There are two stations - the lower station (this station) is "Heratsi". The upper station is "Mink". The cable car is currently abandoned. A burned-out and vandalized carriage remained at the lower station. One of the two main staircases leading to the second floor is partially collapsed at the top. The upper station is also abandoned, but is in slightly better condition than the lower one.  The cable car operated from 1967 to 2004. It was built according to the project of architects Hovhannes Markaryan and Baghdasar Arzumanyan. Even during the years of the country's energy blockade, the road worked — the staff turned the mechanisms manually. Passenger traffic was up to 500 people daily. The cable car was closed after the 2004 accident. As a result of the cable breakage, one of the wagons collapsed from a height of about 12 meters, the second one braked in an emergency. As a result of this tragedy, three people died (two on the spot and one died in hospital). Almost 10 suffered injuries of varying severity. The decision to close was made due to lack of funding — it was too expensive to rebuild the road.

A fairly detailed history of the cable car was written in the review below. In the photo, the lower station. At the moment it looks like this (November 2025)🫰
