Panagia Chrysopolitissa Church (Church of Theotokos Chrysopolitissa) It was built in 1765-1769 on the site of a destroyed temple of the 12th century, which, in turn, as it happens on Cypriot soil, was built on the site of an even more ancient temple, and so on.… The church of Panagia Chrysopolitissa looks quite unusual: the colonnades of the galleries, the bell tower, somewhat reminiscent of the Venetian campanile (although the bell tower of the church was built in Ottoman times, after the lifting of the Ottoman ban on bell towers in 1856), and the Doric columns in the central nave seemed unusual. Among the shrines of the temple is the icon of Panagia Elimonitria of the XV century.…
