I was surprised when I saw the negative reviews. After all, Uplistsikhe not only cannot leave you indifferent; I don't understand how you can not like it. One day we decided to visit Mtskheta (the Church of the Holy Cross is a stunning place with amazing views) and Uplistsikhe. Additionally, we stopped at the Stalin Museum in Gori. The whole trip took one day. We left Tbilisi after breakfast and returned for dinner. It takes about an hour by car from Mtskheta to Uplistsikhe. Parking is available in front of the complex. Uplistsikhe is a city in a cave, one of the first cities in Georgia. It was built / carved at the end of the II - beginning of the I millennium (!) Not all of the 700 caves that were in Uplistsikhe during its heyday have been preserved, but even those that have been preserved are impressive. A map is provided at the entrance; it is convenient to navigate the area using it. Be sure to visit the "Temple with coffers" (for the sake of the figured ceiling), the Beautiful temple and the Hall of Queen Tamara. They are well preserved (at least for that age). Yes, you will have to walk a lot and climb up a lot. But, firstly, you will climb comfortable new stairs, and secondly, the climb is worth it. You rise above the terrain with a beautiful view. But the most important thing is that you can move around Uplistsikhe without restrictions. No serious fences, fences, or ceilings. Of course, here you need to think soberly and adequately assess your strengths. One wrong move and you'll fall down. But to make a wrong move, you need to climb very high, which only physically developed tourists can do. I would not risk going to Uplistsikhe in the rain - it seems to me it will be slippery and therefore dangerous. And in dry weather, walking and jumping on rocks is quite exciting.

It's very beautiful and interesting here. Payment of 15 lari is an incomplete route and 20 lari is a full one. We still didn't understand what was different, but we were wholeheartedly walking up the steps of the 1st century BC. Magnificent halls, incredible views and everything that we inherited to see. And the most interesting thing is that life here existed until 1920, when an earthquake completely destroyed the city. There are still vineyards a little higher up, and you can see someone living there. We saw a similar cave city in the Crimea, Eski-Kermen. Everything is very identical. But there are more questions than answers. I recommend looking in comfortable shoes and warm clothes if it's off-season. The higher you go, the more wind there is. And apricots grow in the crevices, I imagine if you walk there in the spring and eat delicious fruits. There is a toilet in front of the ticket office for 1 GEL) parking is free. I hope it will be useful to you.
